    18 May 2019 09:00      15:30

SWING, an acronym for "Small and Wonderful Industrial, Narrow Gauge and light railways", is the now well established and popular Annual Exhibition held by the South Downs Area Group of the 7mm Narrow Gauge Association.
We have a reputation for presenting an exhibition which showcases some of the best  (generally small) layouts to be found on the circuit and to do this in a welcoming and friendly atmosphere. Come and join us - we can promise an interesting and worthwhile visit.
If you are tempted but come from further afield, why not make a weekend of it? There are plenty of hotels and B&Bs in the Littlehampton, Bognor and Worthing area and you are within an easy drive of the Amberley Industrial Museum with its 2ft gauge railway, the Bluebell to the North-east, the Mid-Hants railway to the North-west and at a stretch the Isle of Wight Railway system to the South=west- and much more!. Treat yourselves and your family!

Our next exhibition will be held on:-

    Saturday 18th May, 2019
    1000 - 1630
    The Littlehampton Academy
    Fitzalan Road
    Littlehampton
    BN17 6FE

    Admission- £6
    Concessions- £5
Children Under 16 go free when accompanied by an adult

This year we are pleased to be supporting Chestnut Tree House - A wonderful local charity which cares for 300 children and young adults
from 0-19 years of age with progressive life-shortening conditions

WE WILL ALSO BE HOSTING THE 7MM NARROW GAUGE ASSOCIATION AGM - but don't worry if that's not your thing.
As usual we will have top quality layouts in a wide variety of scales and gauges so you will all be catered for!

Details of our Layouts in 2019
As usual we will have yet another selection of superb layouts in a wide range of scales and gauges for you to enjoy. Details will be listed below as they are confirmed:

Bridport Town - Freelance Dorset O-16.5
    Brown Bear Bottom - U.S. Outline Gn15
    Bullock Falls - On30
Duffield lane - Freelance Sussex O-16.5
Fintonagh - Imaginary 4mm Scale, 21mm Irish Broad Gauge
Hinksey Yard- Modern N Standard Gauge
    Jelly Bean Factory - O-16.5
    Lambton & Verdane - Freelance O16.5
Lansdowne Green - Freelance (Slindon Vale Railway) Sussex O-16.5
Mers Les Bains - Imaginary 1:32 Scale French Narrow Gauge
Scarside - Freelance (Scarrdale Railway) OO9

Up the line - War Department Light Railways O-16.5
Wagon Lift (Angus Bentley) - O Standard Gauge
    Worton Court - Freelance O16.5

Landsdowne Green and Worton Court comprise two modules from one of the earliest, possibly the earliest, O-16.5 Modular Layouts the builders of which became founding members of the 7mm Narrow Gauge Association. Therefore it is particularly significant that these two layouts are appearing, albeit separately, at this show in the association's 40th anniversary year. The layouts are, it is believed by the author, no longer able to be joined together in a modular format.

Details of our Traders in 2019
We will have most of our usual selection of traders together with some newcomers - all, of course, very high quality to match the layouts.  Details will be listed below as they become available and are confirmed:

    • Robertsbridge Model Railway Show 24-25 May 2025
      By clogger,
Good little show. Bit biased though as I’m exhibiting at the show and have done so for a couple of years now.

    • Gauge O Guild Winter Show
      By LAWLOGG Editor,
A few words about the show, some pictures of us setting up our stands (and, more significantly, a comprehensive video of the attendees) are available at this link.
    • The National Festival of Railway Modelling @ NEC
      By 7013,
Considering this is the first show by BRM I thought they did a reall good job.
Quibbles: I know you have to rent the floorspace by the square metere, but it got a bit crowded at times between stalls/layouts.
Positives: Lots of good trade support, some superb layouts, and very helpful friendly staff.
Warley was always going to be a hard act to follow, and the organisers did well.
I can see this growing in the future
    • Tyneside Model Railway Exhibition
      By jacko,
Drove down from Lanark early on Saturday morning (6 hour round trip!) to arrive shortly after 10am.  The first surprise was seeing my cousin showing his O gauge layout in the foyer (shown as east Glasson port authority on the programme but it wasn't that). Nice to have a chat with him as we've not met for a couple of years. Moving on to the main halls, there seemed to be plenty of space for viewing, helped no doubt by my being there so early. I'd driven down especially to see Grantham, Pelaw and Fencehouses having seen them in the mags and I wasn't disappointed so spent at least an hour swapping between the three. All three layouts exceeded expectations but it was also great to see Richmond in the flesh, it having only just appeared in print last month. I saw Alston in Glasgow in February and there's been no drop in quality. However,  my favourite (and I'm probably biased as I'm modelling the s&c) was Kirtley Bridge - what a superb layout, the quality of modelling and the atmosphere was outstanding. I think I spent around 3 hours at the show and was absolutely wrecked by the time I got home but it was well worth it. I'll be watching out for next year's dates to make sure they're kept clear.
      Graeme
