    23 July 2022      24 July 2022

After a two year covid-enduced hiatus, we are very pleased to announce that DEMU Showcase will take place this year on 23/24th July 2022 at Sutton Coldfield Townhall in Sutton, just north of Birmingham city centre.

As you are probably aware, we have been looking for a new ‘home’ for Showcase after leaving Burton-on-Trent Town Hall in 2018 due to the space available to hire reducing considerably that year. Unfortunately, in 2019 we were forced to re-arrange the show at very short notice after cancellation by our anticipated new Burton venue and ended up at Greenbank Leisure Centre in nearby Swadlincote.

The Showcase organising team are mindful of the need for stability and to try and find a location that we can call home for a number of years to come. We believe that we have found this with Sutton Coldfield Town Hall. On this basis, we have decided to ‘bite the bullet’ and move the show this year. Unfortunately, the price we pay for this means moving from our usual early June date to mid July. Rest assured, this is a temporary arrangement for this year only and we plan to return to our early June slot from 2023 onwards.

Not only is the Town Hall an extremely characterful building, but it is a mere 2 minutes walk from Sutton train station and only 5 minutes walk from the centre of Sutton Coldfield itself. Sutton Coldfield is well connected to the national motorway network in the centre of the country and only a few minutes off both the M6 and the M6 toll. There is also plentiful parking nearby.

Regarding the covid situation, If the last two years are anything to go by, we anticipate that mid summer gives us the best possible opportunity of running a show with little or no restrictions. Clearly however, if the situation changes we may be forced to restrict numbers and comply with any other regulations that might come into force.

We look forward to seeing you this summer in Sutton!

Good little show. Bit biased though as I’m exhibiting at the show and have done so for a couple of years now.

      By LAWLOGG Editor,
A few words about the show, some pictures of us setting up our stands (and, more significantly, a comprehensive video of the attendees) are available at this link.
    • The National Festival of Railway Modelling @ NEC
      By 7013,
Considering this is the first show by BRM I thought they did a reall good job.
Quibbles: I know you have to rent the floorspace by the square metere, but it got a bit crowded at times between stalls/layouts.
Positives: Lots of good trade support, some superb layouts, and very helpful friendly staff.
Warley was always going to be a hard act to follow, and the organisers did well.
I can see this growing in the future
    • Tyneside Model Railway Exhibition
      By jacko,
Drove down from Lanark early on Saturday morning (6 hour round trip!) to arrive shortly after 10am.  The first surprise was seeing my cousin showing his O gauge layout in the foyer (shown as east Glasson port authority on the programme but it wasn't that). Nice to have a chat with him as we've not met for a couple of years. Moving on to the main halls, there seemed to be plenty of space for viewing, helped no doubt by my being there so early. I'd driven down especially to see Grantham, Pelaw and Fencehouses having seen them in the mags and I wasn't disappointed so spent at least an hour swapping between the three. All three layouts exceeded expectations but it was also great to see Richmond in the flesh, it having only just appeared in print last month. I saw Alston in Glasgow in February and there's been no drop in quality. However,  my favourite (and I'm probably biased as I'm modelling the s&c) was Kirtley Bridge - what a superb layout, the quality of modelling and the atmosphere was outstanding. I think I spent around 3 hours at the show and was absolutely wrecked by the time I got home but it was well worth it. I'll be watching out for next year's dates to make sure they're kept clear.
      Graeme
