I thought you'd have a lot more snow than that right now.

We had a trace of snow here yesterday in the afternoon - the first of the season. The temperature never dropped below freezing and the snow changed to rain in the early evening. There was more persistent snow at higher elevations.

It was nice to see it falling and there was almost enough to make everything look white.

This morning of course was foggy.

That was yesterday afternoon and we had about another inch this morning. I've only had to use the plow once so far and that was in December. There's plenty of snow at higher elevations. I went skiing on Monday at Lookout Pass and it was super - good snow and sunshine. I might go again tomorrow if I can get up early enough. Of course there is some risk but I didn't go into the lodge and I was on my own on the lifts. It's probably less risky than going into Costco.

We can get vaccinated now but there isn't enough vaccine. Hopefully there will be in a week or so.

I did go up to Lookout today. Some time ago I discovered that skiing really helps my back. It was starting to go a bit wobbly on me recently but after a couple of days on the idiot planks it really feels much better :)

The good news is I now qualify for a Super Senior ski pass at Lookout which lets me ski as often as I want for what I would pay for a single day lift ticket in Colorado.

South Limburg in the Netherlands. The windmill “Op de Vrouweheide” is the highest in the country at 216m

Is that where they hold the famous "Netherlands Downhill Races"?

We spent Christmas 2020 in Echuca, along the Victoria/New South Wales border. I previously posted a photo of the main highway leading to Echuca from my home in Melbourne. Here's a snapshot from my dashcam of a typical Australian dirt road with boring scenery to the east of Echuca.

In contrast to Andy's snow, here's another from Echuca: this was right behind our friends' property on the outskirts of town. We were there for Christmas, and this was on the 27th of December, when the temperature went up to 39 degrees C. The 'roos tend to gather there a little after dawn and near dusk.

A few views from my local area, taken when on our walks back in May 2020, while we were under lockdown conditions. We were allowed out for exercise within a limited radius of home. The first view is looking down my own street, the rest are all in nearby streets.

(Spread over a couple of posts because of size limits).

A better view of the local windmill. Tomorrow it’s expected to be covered in snow

Should look like a Bruegel. Please post pix :)

Should be slightly chilly here on Friday. The forecast for the Mullan Pass on the Idaho/Montana border is predicting a high of +3F and a low of -4F. I don't think I'll be skiing.

Nova Scotia, Canada. Beautiful place. Also lived in New Brunswick (has its charms in places). We had 50cm of snow today, but was too busy shovelling to take photos, so other winter wonderland photos from previous days and years.

I’ll post some other seasonal photos soon, but at a 10mb limit you’ll get sick of all my posting if I do it all at once.

Two of the city (Halifax) are from my work building :)

Not a great deal of snow fell. We don’t do winters like they do in North USA/ Canada.

Not a lot of snow here so far this year although there is plenty on the mountains. But it is extremely cold at the moment and the lake is starting to freeze around the edges.

I snapped these guys from our bedroom window. They are White Tail deer.

How is that possible?

Downtown Portland, north to the Canadian border is buried in snow this weekend.

In the southwestern part of the Portland metro we were treated to lots of freezing rain, resulting in this:

The sound of falling ice and branches in the Douglas Firs overnight was, frankly, disconcerting.

It's making up for it now. It's been snowing all day and more expected tomorrow.

We had a dreadful ice-storm not long after we moved here 25 years ago. Very strange. Complete silence interspersed by the explosive sound of big tree trunks snapping. I'd never experienced anything like it and I'd rather not go through it again.

Sunday turned out to be the worst impact even though there wasn't much more accumulation. We lost power for more than 23 hours and I have a number of damaged trees - the worst being a lovely symmetrical dwarf Japanese maple right in front of the house. It completely lost a major branch which represented almost 50% of its canopy.
