RMweb Premium Mallard60022 Posted July 28, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 28, 2015 Could anyone that has the Engineer's volume of Larkins (one I don't have sadly) let me know the Meldon and or Exeter area allocated Shark B Vans? I can only find one Meldon van in Paul B's photos (993851) and I'm wanting to get my Cambrian and Modelmaster set up correct as far as is possible for circa 1960/4. Many thanks Phil (ex 72A)
Fat Controller
I'm on Nights tonight (in the UK, fortunately) , but will try and remember to have a look in both Larkin, and the Eric Gent book on BR Brake Vans, and see what I can find.
RMweb Premium Mallard60022 Posted July 28, 2015 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted July 28, 2015 Really appreciate that Brian. I've got the one I mentioned and two other possibles but it would be good if one of the Exeter vans was actually one on the Modelmaster set. If not I'll look at CCTs set (s) All the best, Phil. eastwestdivide
Almost related, might be a useful variation, this SR plough brake, DS 62523, apparently built 1914, was still knocking about at Exeter in August 1983:

RMweb Premium Mallard60022 Posted July 29, 2015 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted July 29, 2015 Thanks Andy. I posted almost the same question in two places because I often get little response from one of the Forums. Apologies if that has caused any problems but the 'ploy' has worked ........ thanks Chrtis F on the locked thread! 17 vans allocated as Return to Meldon. Phil Edit to correct number of vans. Fat Controller
As promised, the info from Larkin:- DB993723-6 DB993752-6 DB993801-3 DB993849-53 I make that 16, but I'd check.- I was on Nights last night. A lot of the trains used SR or BR traffic brakes, I believe, with Queen Mary bogie ones being popular on long hauls.
RMweb Premium Mallard60022 Posted July 29, 2015 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted July 29, 2015 Thanks Brian. It is 17. I must have missed 5 out....my age is my excuse. Oh yes 752 - 756! Doh! I think I remember seeing the Marys on bigger trains of either all or mainly bogie hoppers at Exeter Central. P

P The only one I caught hanging around Exeter was a late build one DS62863 http://PaulBartlett.zenfolio.com/srshark/e2b2a0952 The 1914 one that I saw repeatedly was in South Wales DS62523 http://PaulBartlett.zenfolio.com/srshark/e6becabd Is it still at the MRT? I don't appear to have noticed it there. If it is perhaps Bachmann can be encouraged to introduce it, would go well with their SECR locos. RMweb Premium Mallard60022 Posted August 1, 2015 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted August 1, 2015 I have a response from the good man Graham Muzz on the SR Forum. (Thanks matey). He, of course as he has built almost everything Southern, tells me there is a Jidenco/Falcon Brass Kit. Ummmmmmmm, not sure if I can cope with one of those even if I can find it! We shall have to see.
