Departmental
I have recently seen reference to 'TOAD A' brake vans. Could someone explain what the 'A' is for... and is there a TOAD B?
'CHARD
There were toads aplenty. Not unusually, Paul Bartlett's incredible website is your friend here: http://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/lnerbrake
hmrspaul
Although the LNER used several designations to separate out versions of their brake vans the GWR restricted the use of the telegraph code to simply TOAD and TOAD A. The TOAD A were vacuum braked whereas the plain TOAD were unfitted. http://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/gwrbrakevan Paul
