RMweb Premium Blandford1969 Posted October 27, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 27, 2015 Hi All, Over the years you have kindly helped me to identify various of my negs which have no information (which is quite a lot). I have recently been working on a new batch. Any ideas on these locations would really be appreciated. this slide was wrongly labelled as Radstock, which it clearly is not. The box behind is ex GW and the signals suggest a double track. The hooded wagons to the side are interesting, but where is it. Suggestions have been on the Cambrian, between Hereford and Shrewsbury, but any of them right? Next the first thought was Fort William, but the tank wagon says not to be shunted through s ______ tunnel which appears to rule that out. Again Wales has been suggested. The last for now looks very Cambrian to me, the warning sign looks ex GW too. Any help would be really appreciated and there are more to come. best wishes Duncan
RMweb Gold Joseph_Pestell Posted October 27, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 27, 2015 I do enjoy these! I think that the coach in the 2nd photo is an ex-Highland vehicle. So perhaps Aviemore? I can't remember if the depot there had such an impressive coaling stage though. 1st photo: BR 4MT 264T on an ex-GW route certainly suggests Wales. Should be easy enough to find with that track layout. I have an idea for no 3 but want to look up one of my books to be sure.
DOCJACOB
Wouldnt totally "dish" Fort William. There was a double water crane there (not many on NBR) and the coach looks NBR with the roof profile?
pH
I would agree with Fort William for the second photo. Look at the shapes of the hills and what looks like a water tank in the background of the third picture in this post - http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/61633-fort-william-in-1972/?p=786414. And there were 'foreign' tank wagons at Fort William - see later photos in that topic.
RMweb Premium Blandford1969 Posted October 27, 2015 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted October 27, 2015 Thanks for your replies. I went back to Fort William and found this https://www.flickr.com/photos/railwaydave/4225904914note the brick building in the yard, which appears to be a good match, as does the location of the church which again appears to match. Quarryscapes
Hi All, Over the years you have kindly helped me to identify various of my negs which have no information (which is quite a lot). I have recently been working on a new batch. Any ideas on these locations would really be appreciated. u1.jpg this slide was wrongly labelled as Radstock, which it clearly is not. The box behind is ex GW and the signals suggest a double track. The hooded wagons to the side are interesting, but where is it. Suggestions have been on the Cambrian, between Hereford and Shrewsbury, but any of them right? u2.jpg Next the first thought was Fort William, but the tank wagon says not to be shunted through s ______ tunnel which appears to rule that out. Again Wales has been suggested. u3.jpg The last for now looks very Cambrian to me, the warning sign looks ex GW too. Any help would be really appreciated and there are more to come. best wishes Duncan First one not on Cambrian territory I don't think, could it be Denbigh area or South Wales? The last one the bench is Cambrian but the station building isn't, perhaps Mid Wales railway?
Quarryscapes
Yes, further to my last comment, it's Newbridge on Wye

RMweb Premium Blandford1969 Posted October 29, 2015 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted October 29, 2015 Here are another three mysteries. The first I think is on a running in turn, the station looks very LSWR. The second again LSWR but where The third is a nice one of a GNR 4-4-2 and what looks like junction signals behind Again any ideas are really appreciated. best wishes Duncan
The Lurker
the second one of those pictures with the Adams Jubilee has appeared on another of the mystery locations threads but I'm blowed if I can find it right now! Neither can I remember whether the location was solved
RMweb Premium Blandford1969 Posted October 31, 2015 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted October 31, 2015 Your right that the second one has been in a previous thread on unidentified locations. I am chancing my arm someone different might see it and have an idea. Anyway here are another couple. As ever your suggestions are really appreciated. now identified as Lancing, many thanks for your help possibly North Eastern
RMweb Premium petethemole Posted October 31, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 31, 2015 The first one appears to be the north side of Lancing Station, on Sompting Road. The buildings have gone but the footbridge, dropped kerb and bus stop location all match. https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@50.8272246,-0.3229031,3a,75y,180h,90t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1ss9o7jYlGQMMd9yXQCd6vkA!2e0!6s%2F%2Fgeo1.ggpht.com%2Fcbk%3Fpanoid%3Ds9o7jYlGQMMd9yXQCd6vkA%26output%3Dthumbnail%26cb_client%3Dmaps_sv.tactile.gps%26thumb%3D2%26w%3D203%26h%3D100%26yaw%3D88.091034%26pitch%3D0!7i13312!8i6656 You've put the Urie Arthur up twice before; I still don't think it's anywhere very near Eastleigh (IMHO). RMweb Premium Blandford1969 Posted October 31, 2015 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted October 31, 2015 Hi Pete, Thanks for Lancing, do you have any ideas where the Arthur might be?
RMweb Premium Andy Kirkham Posted October 31, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 31, 2015 Yes, further to my last comment, it's Newbridge on Wye I wonder how effective those splendid posters were in persuading the citizens of Newbridge to visit York and the West Highland line. RMweb Premium Blandford1969 Posted November 1, 2015 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted November 1, 2015 Sadly not effective enough to keep passengers travelling, but what a lovely snapshot in time. Have I posted this one before. I have no ideas where it is

plarailfan
I came across this rather nice photo on Flickr a few weeks ago. Does anyone recognise where it is/was taken ? the rural background and hill, look to me, like Tebay, Kirkby Stephen, or some areas of Teeside, while the concrete building looks like a grain silo, or maybe a conveyor in a quarry ? https://www.flickr.com/photos/96859208@N07/22788356491/in/pool-1677876@N25/
RMweb Premium Blandford1969 Posted December 17, 2015 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted December 17, 2015 I can't think of a building like that at Kirkby Stephen. Its a nice side on view of the engine. Having an early crest points to it being earlier in its short career. I'm sure someone will know.
