RMweb Gold 30801 Posted November 27, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 27, 2015 If you are a committed skinflint here's a handy map showing where you might be able to find the magazine in stock. https://www.raspberrypi.org/magpi/how-to-get-magpi-40/
Mark Dickerson
...but also note the comments that the "online entrepreneurs" are out in force. Oh well. One would have been nice to start tinkering with to counter the,"Are you just going to tinker with trains all day?" comments over Christmas; I'll just have to make do with beer instead. RMweb Gold 30801 Posted November 27, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 27, 2015 At least there's a limit to the scalping since you might as well just get the full fat Model A for twenty quid.
Mark Dickerson
At least there's a limit to the scalping since you might as well just get the full fat Model A for twenty quid. Agreed, but I really like the idea of a free computer with a magazine (and yes, I still think digital watches are a pretty neat idea ). It's very old-style World of Tomorrow. DavidB-AU
And if you don't want to spend £5.99 on the magazine to get a free computer, you can buy the computer itself for the princely sum of £4. Cheers David
DavidB-AU
Retailers aren't separating them. If you want one without the magazine, get it direct from the Foundation. http://swag.raspberrypi.org/products/pi-zero Cheers David
DavidB-AU
By the way, the Raspberry Pi is the second most popular British-made computer of all time, selling over 5 million units. Not bad for a not-for-profit. It's still a bit of a way behind the Amstrad which sold 8 million. Cheers David

Austrag
Well guys, enjoy your Pie. Went to my nearest Smiths (5 miles away), no joy there, was told they went in minutes. One person was on the phone before the shop opened and they also had a request for five from staff at nearby garden centre turned down. I was told to try Cambridge (20 Miles) or Peterborough (25 miles). Added to that there are none from the maker after 20,000 were issued. Added my email to the interest list and must now wait...... RMweb Gold 30801 Posted November 29, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 29, 2015 I spent the eBay scalping price of £30 on a six month Magpi subscription starting at issue 40. Might give me some incentive to actually use the thing
RMweb Gold martin_wynne Posted November 29, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 29, 2015 I spent the eBay scalping price of £30 on a six month Magpi subscription starting at issue 40. Might give me some incentive to actually use the thing For less than that you could have had the A+, B+, or 2B models. All more capable than the Zero and showing in stock (plus vat), free delivery: http://uk.rs-online.com/web/b/raspberry-pi/?sra=p&r=t http://uk.rs-online.com/web/b/raspberry-pi/?sra=p&r=t&pn=2 Millions sold. Ideally to get started you also need the NOOBS OS on microSD card -- see bundles above. Is NOOBS on a card included with the Zero? It's downloadable, but you need a microSD card to put it on: https://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/ Martin.

jamesg
The specialist Raspberry Pi retailers are selling them without any accessories for £4 plus postage, but you might have to dig around the site a bit. I'll certainly be buying one after the initial rush has dissipated, but I wonder how they can be used with a model railway. My first thought is ambient sounds, if analogue sound can be extracted from the GPIO pins.
Robert
This is great news. I am constantly astounded just how cheap the RaspPi is. As for people complaining - well, nobody is forcing them to buy the magazine, or the Pi Zero. To be honest, I despair when I see how stupid some people can be! I was contemplating using a PIC for my latest project - but by the time you have added USB and some form of user interface you are massively over the cost of a RaspPi - and that is before one even starts talking about networking.
