Edge
Hi Guys, Just perusing the gaugemaster website earlier on today and I found that there were three Kato starter sets advertised, which also appeared on the ehattons website. There were no contents listed, but the titles are: The Hayling Islander Mixed Traffic Meandering The Coronation Streak Does anyone have any more info on these sets, or in particualr their contents? Considering the name and previous association between KATO and Dapol I would hazard a guess that the Coronation Streak may well be an A4 and some appropraitely liveried coaches, but that is rather a guess, and I'm totally stunmped as to what the other sets could be. So, any help guys? EDIT: the Link for you doubting thomas-types out there http://www.gaugemaster.com/search_results.asp?searchstring=+brand~~712~~brand&style=&andor=&method=kws&strType=¤tpage=
Wherry Lines
I suspect the Hayling Islander will be a terrier. The Mixed Traffic? Well, something with a western region flavour I would think. Perhaps a Manor if it's steamy, or a class 22 if it's diesel based?
Black Sheep
All I know of Kato British outline is the class 66 is 1:160 instead if the uk 1:148 making it smaller than the farish / Dapol ones.
Wherry Lines
I suspect these sets are a tie-up with Dapol and Gaugemaster. Previous Dapol sets have used Kato Uni-track and Gaugemaster controller.
Edge
Thanks for the contributions guys. anyone else got any info or ideas on these?
Wherry Lines
They're now listed on Hattons, but no further details.
RMweb Premium njee20 Posted January 15, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 15, 2016 They do one with a DBS 66 and Silver Bullets too, but again, presuming 1:160.
Taigatrommel
The one with Silver Bullets and a 66 uses Dapol vehicles, so all are 1:148. http://www.ehattons.com/108874/Kato_GMKS004_The_Silver_Bullets_Starter_Set_with_Dapol_Limited_Edition_DB_Schenker_Class_66_0/StockDetail.aspx
Wherry Lines
Surely they'd be to 1:148? The limited edition Dapol models for Modellbahn Union have been to 1:148, despite European N being to 1:160.
justin1985
Yeah should probably be listed under Dapol rather than Kato. Sound very much like the previous Dapol N gauge "train sets" which had Kato Unitrack included. The previous batch were notable for including the class 56 in LoadHaul black/orange with a train of steel hood wagons - the only time its been released in that livery. All will be to 1:148. There is a Kato 1:160 Class 66 (and low emission variant door layout plus cab air-conditioning variant "class 77") but they've never tried to release it in British liveries. I have one in Dutch "Rail4Chem" livery ready to be repainted as a Norwegian CargoNet example. Its a very crisp and smooth running model, as you'd expect, and as also usual with Kato, just very nicely moulded grilles and handrails rather than gimmicky etches and wavy wire rails etc.
RMweb Premium Kris Posted January 15, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 15, 2016 There has also been one that included a Hall and 3 Colletts. I think that this one was called the Home Counties Commuter or something similar.
Edge
Came across these on the Gaugemaster stand at Ally Pally today: https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/Nz2SZSxicNmzOhnvQnPdB5joHsLTCJJuffS79KmiR5E https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/PM2LwAmPjUT5m15dw3hEnlo7xIgefgDcF0qbgzcjf8K Those pictures are from the Gaugemaster website as the boxes at Ally Pally were rated obscured. No word on the contents of the coronation streak box but I'd say it's a fair bet that an A4 is involved
