RMweb Gold BlueLightning Posted October 11, 2016 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 11, 2016 At least you know what he's up to! Of course she knows what I'm up to. RMweb Gold BlueLightning Posted October 12, 2016 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 12, 2016 She knows where you are, too. She's got a choice there. I could be at work, or at the model shop, or at the MRC, or at home, and on rare occasions I could even be at an exhibition lol Gary
Edwardian
No need to consider it: it is a well-known (and easily testable) fact, when it comes to getting close. And as you say, fading/darkening over time, weathering, distance, etc, all add to changes. Personally, I guide myself more by the emotional response a colour gives me. Talking of emotional responses, I wonder what the Cantabrian dons thought when the GER went from green to a dark (Oxonian) blue? Have you seen how far Cambridge station is from the town centre (or walked or cycled it)?!? I think that tells you all you need to know about the attitude of Cantabrigian Dons to railways of any colour. Given that their minds were on higher things, I doubt they would have noticed. RMweb Gold BlueLightning Posted October 14, 2016 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 14, 2016 (edited) Time for a pre-show update. This weekend is the Uckfield MRC Exhibition at the Uckfield Civic Centre 10am - 5pm Saturday and Sunday, for details see here, meaning my weekend will be taken up with stewarding duties (see; playing with other peoples layouts while they take a break), so no modelling will happen. However that doesn't mean I have been sitting idle since I last posted on here, in fact I have been quite busy so without further ado I present the new Oak Hill station building: And the newly surfaced platform: Giving us a rather nice and much more complete looking station area: The platform surface has been made with gloss black paint covered in chinchilla dust whilst still wet and hovered once dry. The bricks along the edge were made on a very useful website I found here: http://paperbrick.co.uk/ I hope this proves useful to someone else. I have also continued work on the stable which has now replaced the paper mock-up on the layout: and when I was in the model shop the other day, following advice from Mike (The Stationmaster) way back on page 5, I picked up a set of working trap points: And shown here in position, they will need cutting down to fit, I think I know how I'm going to do this: And finally I leave you with a photo taken of terrier number 76 "Hailsham" sitting in the station with the branch line shuttle: Thanks for looking, hope you enjoyed, Gary Edited April 11, 2017 by BlueLightning

RMweb Gold BlueLightning Posted October 14, 2016 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 14, 2016 Not a problem Ian. It was such a good site that I felt I had to share it. Just got back home from setting up the Uckfield MRC Exhibition tomorrow. Really going to be a good one! Gary
RMweb Gold BlueLightning Posted October 15, 2016 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 15, 2016 I would indeed. It's not like I'm biased at all, honest guv' Although to be fair it is always a good show. Spend some time today operating a rather nice TT gauge layout and will be spending some time playing on Tidworth tomorrow, rather looking forward to that. RMweb Gold BlueLightning Posted October 17, 2016 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 17, 2016 (edited) Uckfield MRC Exhibition 2016 round-up A rather fun weekend was had at the Uckfield show with plenty of time spent behind different layouts including Tidworth which is one of my favourite layouts. Lots of pictures were taken although a couple of layouts seem to have been missed (I'm sure I took pictures but can't find them now). So in alphabetical order I present (most of) Uckfield 2016! Brankstone - 00 Gauge - built and owned by fellow Uckfield MRC member Rodger Bradgate Brixham Bay - N Gauge Broken Creek - H0 gauge Castlederg - 00-12 Ermengerst - H0 Gauge Harlyn Pier - 0 Gauge High Stamley - 009 Hoath Hill / Sub Wealden Gypsum Co - 3mm Finescale Lower Shalford - 0 Gauge The new 7mm layout from Uckfield MRC making it's exhibition debut Portwenn - 0-16.5 Pwllheli - P4 Tidworth - 00 Gauge And a bit of fun to end seen on top of Castlederg's fiddle yard Hope you enjoyed seeing the exhibition. RMweb Gold BlueLightning Posted October 25, 2016 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 25, 2016 (edited) Please make sure you are sitting down before reading this....... I seem to have finished a project. At the Uckfield show I picked up some Phoenix Precision SECR loco paints and so when I got home I got on with finishing and painting the P Class and I already had transfers sitting around so...... What do you think?? It took a while to be able to see again after doing the lining but now that I can see again it was worth it. Thanks for looking, hope you enjoyed, Gary Edited April 11, 2017 by BlueLightning

RMweb Gold BlueLightning Posted October 25, 2016 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 25, 2016 Thanks, This is the first time I have ever lined a loco. I am really happy with it and it has given me the confidence to try more. The first thing I am planning on doing is getting some more transfers and re-doing my C Class as that looks terrible next to the P Class now. However back to the layout first. RMweb Gold BlueLightning Posted October 25, 2016 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 25, 2016 (edited) Thanks Jim. The one I have modelled is preserved on the Bluebell and currently undergoing a "quick overhaul" at least that's what they called it when they started in 1978, Some pictures of it in SECR livery can be seen on the Bluebell's page about it here: http://www.bluebell-railway.co.uk/bluebell/pics/27.html Gary Edited April 11, 2017 by BlueLightning

Our house move is now off......don't even go there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Have taken the opportunity to scrap the last layout completely but plans are afoot for a new condensed version a la Julian Andrews. LBSCR branch terminus West Sussex/Hampshire border circa 1907 is looking favourite at the moment. Keep up the good work, Craig.
mikeandnel
Just off topic but I notice that Craig is thinking of a LBSCR terminus on the Sussex/Hampshire border. I think there was only one and it is under construction in my 'den' Midhurst 1866. Problem is that it not very photogenic at the moment, otherwise I would add it to my blogs Maybe in a few weeks Michael

I am looking forward to getting that layout back out and working on it some more actually. "Wow" would be my answer to your question. Beautiful. Thanks James, I was really scared of giving it a go. I've had the transfers almost as long as I've had the loco and that was back on page 1. In fact painting the loco made me more scared as it looked so good just like that. Well worth jumping out of my comfort zone though Gary, As a first attempt with lining I think it looks brilliant. Thanks Chris, I'm so glad I decided to try. RMweb Gold BlueLightning Posted November 1, 2016 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 1, 2016 (edited) Another week and another first time trying something. This hobby really does have a lot of variation. This weeks first is that I have been scribing with DAS clay, I have used DAS for many things in the past but I have never scribed into it to create a texture. However I had turned my attention back to the station building and seeing the price I would have to pay for hanging tiles, about £16 and they would have been individual tiles to be "hung" one at a time, I decided to have a go at making them, and I am rather happy with the result: The station is looking a lot more complete now and I think I may have ago at the windows for the next job on it. Once again I am glad I tried something new and think it looks really good. Also following a few months of the layout being piled with tools, off-cuts of plasticard and all the other usual modelling items I have finally cleared the layout and set up what appears to be the busiest BLT in the world: The Oak Hill Publicity Board would like to make it clear that the preceding image has been altered to remove borders that may offend some Edwardian visitors Thanks for looking, hope you enjoyed, Gary Edited April 11, 2017 by BlueLightning

Caley Jim
The station is looking a lot more complete now and I think I may have ago at the windows for the next job on it. Once again I am glad I tried something new and think it looks really good. You didn't mention that there had been severe gales in the area which had brought down fencing and the station lamposts. Presumably the latter were felled by the wind being deflected back off the building as they have fallen the opposite way to the fence! Jim
