As Sarah says it is a very big book. Much bigger than I expected. The postage was quite reasonable at £2.80, even better when the book itself was on Amazon for 50p!! It is in much better condition that I expected it to be!!

Yes Alex a D1, it will be finished in Improved Engine Green as number 27 "Uckfield" when done, I can't imagine what made me choose that identity!!!!

What about “Victoria”, the one with the illustrious war record?

Victoria was a D3, my kit is a D1. The D3 is on my wish list still and Victoria is a good candidate for the loco that I will build when I get one.

Chivers do a kit for a D3. I've done a couple and they are quite good given that an 0-4-4 is a pig to balance.

Uckfield Model Railway Exhibition 2017

Well I have finally sorted out my pictures of what was a very good weekend with over 1600 people through the door between the 2 days!! And once again some very impressive modelling on display. Once again my camera seems to have misplaced some photos, this time only one layout although it was a rather nice layout, a small US prototype called Wiley City, in HO by Andy Gautrey

So without further ado we have the rest of the layouts, in alphabetical order.

Excellent pictures Gary, glad the exhibition went well. Really fantastic layouts on show there, it's obvious an awful lot of time and talent have gone into all of them. :)

Thanks, Gary.   Nice to see more photos of Arun Quay, featured in the latest MRJ.  All of these are layouts we're unlikely to see this side of the Border!

Jim

Arun Quay was a very impressive layout. I didn't get much chance to see it as it was so busy for the whole weekend. I took my pictures on the Sunday morning before we opened!!

Nice pictures, but ny one of the layouts is pre-grouping... ;)

Well yes, but one of the others had a Terrier in IEG!! and plenty of a couple of others with Brighton locos.

Alex, I am always impressed by the quality of layouts that Adrian brings in, but I think this year he really outdid himself, in my opinion it was his best show yet!!

Nice pictures, but only one of the layouts is pre-grouping... ;)

What date is Bridport Town supposed to be? Anyway, I look at it this way: most of them represent pre-Grouping subjects seen in later life - so much surviving pre-Grouping infrastructure!

I thought it was just the photos in MRJ that made Arun Quay look surprisingly long for 7'6" of O gauge but it does too in Gary's photos...

I always thought it was 20s/30s, but may be wrong.

Well, we could say that about so many things.

I liked the pictures. I liked the exhibition - I was there for the weekend, but my comment was based on the fact that there is a thread for this exhibition, and the post might be more appropriate there, but also would gain a wider audience.

A post in that thread linking to this one would work.

Yes there is a thread for the exhibition and my post will most likely be duplicated over there, Adrian will send me a message if I don't but as the post with all the uploads and attaching photos in the right place took the best part of an hour I didn't feel like doing both at the same time.

While it may not all be pre-grouping neither are some of the earlier posts on this thread, including my round-up of last years Uckfield Exhibition!! I like to think that while my thread may stay on-topic more than thread such as Castle Aching, it is somewhere I can chat to my friends, which is what I consider my followers and regular contributors to be, about other aspects of modelling as well when appropriate. Being a Director of Uckfield MRC means that this exhibition is quite a large part of my modelling at this time of year, and something I am quite proud of and want to be able to show my friends, some of whom I met for the first time at this exhibition, again something I quite enjoy.

All of the above is in addition to Compounds point above that this is MY thread, I am sorry if you don't like my once in a blue moon off topic post, fortunately there is nearly 50 pages of on-topic posts that you could read through and see some (hopefully) nice pre-grouping LB&SCR / SE&CR modelling / bodging.

Good grief.

You read far more into my post than was ever there. I even used an emoticon to show that it wasn’t a serious post.

You are right to be proud of what I think is one of the top two exhibitions in the country (RailEx at Aylesbury is the other one), but if a simple remark that most of a post doesn’t relate to the ostensible title of the forum causes you so much anguish, I think you might benefit from stepping back and taking things less seriously. I mean, really, there is a thread for this exhibition and the post might be more appropriate there (I paraphrase, and add emphasis) is nothing more than a few words expressing an opinion and really doesn’t deserve the rather precious response you provide.

Incidentally, it might be a thread you started, but that does not mean you own it, neither does it permit you to deny free speech, except on the grounds of inappropriate standards of conduct or language. Nowhere have I been abusive, nowhere have I been offensive. Nowhere have I done anything more than mildly suggest that most of the comment might be more appropriate/gain a wider audience somewhere else. I wish I could say the same about some of the responses. Behaving like a petulant child really does you, the exhibition, your club nor the hobby any favours.

Or am I to be flamed for this posting as well?

Regularity,

I think you may be reading a bit much into my response, as I assume it was mine that this comment was aimed at. I was not intending to "flame" you. I was wanting to explain why I had posted this to my thread and not the exhibition thread, something I fully intend to do at some point. In fact my response to your first post, the one with the emoticon, was supposed to be a tongue in cheek response, I frequently forget to use emoticons, and I over use exclamation marks a lot!! That just my typing style.

Short version of my previous post: I posted here as I wanted to share with my friends who visit this thread first, it will go on the exhibition thread at some point.

It certainly wasn't meant to be "precious" and I would never try to deny or limit free speech for any reason at all! Nowhere have I accused you of being abusive or offensive and I genuinely do hope you enjoy my modelling, and I am glad you rate the Uckfield show as highly as you do, comments like that do mean a lot to myself and other members of the club.

I am not trying to start an argument of any type, and offence was not my intention.

Well, I loved the photos, so many thanks for posting them. I'm just sorry that I wasn't able to make the exhibition because I was working all weekend, very glad it was so successful.

And the station building at the back of Surrey Arms is wonderful.

Thanks Ian,

It was a really good show, there were so many people going round the exhibition asking all the members "Where's Gary?" that I am considering getting a badge with my RMWeb user name on for future exhibitions. Meeting people off here is one of the best bits, hopefully you can make it next year and we can meet in person.

Hmm "Where's Gary" now that gives me an idea. How about a model railway show hall full of people and you in a red and white stripped hat and glasses and we've got to spot you do you think it could catch on I mean know ones tried it before have they?

I walked into that one didn't I Steve!

In all honesty it was nice to have so many people wanting to meet me, honestly am I really good enough a modeller to deserve such recognition?? I think the best person to have looking for me was the former owner of a layout called "Bedruthan Steps" or as it is now known "Oak Hill"!!!! Unfortunately we did not cross paths and I missed him, maybe a badge (or red and white stripped hat and glasses) would solve that?!

Gary,

Rarely have I been so charmingly disarmed.

I think you may be reading a bit much into my response,

Quite possible. If I am honest, it was this bit:

All of the above is in addition to Compounds point above that this is MY thread, I am sorry if you don't like my once in a blue moon off topic post, fortunately there is nearly 50 pages of on-topic posts that you could read through and see some (hopefully) nice pre-grouping LB&SCR / SE&CR modelling / bodging.

The humour didn’t come out very well in written form. Actually, you make a number of fair points, it just seemed (to me, at the time) to go a bit over the top. But then again, now that I am feeling less “spikey” than I might have been a couple of hours ago, I can see how your remark could easily be spoken humorously. Ergo, I can now read it that way. I wouldn’t describe your modelling as bodging, either. (I have an irrational, almost pathological, dislike of the word: be proud of your work!) I suppose I can forgive you the LBSCR as it is where you live, and you do have some SECR interests... ;) (I hope that humour worked!)

In fact, I had a conversation with someone at the show on Saturday morning, before the doors opened, on the topic of humourous abuse passing as friendly exchanges for railway modellers, to which I added something to the effect of, “Unless it’s on RMWeb, in which case we all misunderstand things and people not involved steam in and take sides, making it worse”.

If it was with you, then the irony will not gave escaped me...

I frequently forget to use emoticons, and I over use exclamation marks a lot!! That just my typing style.

Not too dissimilar to me, except that I fear emoticons are overused, and I refuse to use multiple exclamation marks.

I am trying to picture you. Did you have lunch with Adrian on the Sunday? If you did, then you both joined me at the table, which would also be an irony.

Prepare for the irony, because that was most definitely me! In fact it was me that raised the question of "Is there any form of communication between railway modellers that isn't abuse?". I did not have lunch with Adrian on Sunday. I had to have mine early as I covered for Dart Castings so that Mike could go and get himself some lunch and have a look around the show. I paid quite a few visits to Trowland though!

I am now off to bed laughing about the irony involved here!

Gary

PS. You have convinced me of the need for a badge with my username!!
