Kevin, the terminus was the Gare Denfert Rochereau, one of the names that comes up on the Paris Underground map, but previously for the Sceaux line, a small independent suburban line built early on. Noteworthy for being built on the Arnoux system, allowing very tight bends, so you didn’t need runrounds at the termini. It went broke, was absorbed into the P.O., who didn’t  take to to complications of the system.

Here is asome context. One can see that the station, in 1855, is very much on the southern outskirts of Paris.

Model making in the age of Vauban and Malborough...

The model is of Besançon, isn't it? I went to a conference there in my metrology days.

1688 (or 1689, depending on which reckoning of dates is used) means nothing to 90% of the current population of these Isles, but the Act of that date has been the foundation of a lot of good things, and I think it did make the English exceptional, for some time. 'It is my analysis that the people do indeed have indubitable rights and that placing politics above the rule of law is unconstitutional.' https://everyright.org/

As for termini, I miss 'the sigh of midnght trains in empty stations', which I remember from European travels as a teenager. Also that romantic evocation in gold letters on blue above the carriage windows: 'Compagnie Internationale des Wagons-Lits et des Grands Express Européens'. Those were the days when a destination boad on a carriage showing Rome, Zurich, Marseilles,  Vienna or even Munich meant luxury travel to exciting places.

Or the Glorious Revolution! Mentioning this to a school history teacher,  received blank looks. " The war of 1812 you mean?"

One thing I remember from seeing these Vauban models is that some of the roofs were thatched using human hair - I wonder if that's where Roye England got the idea or was it an independent discovery?

When Roye was showing us his models he said how he did things but never claimed he was the originator of techniques except  the use of the spines of blackbird feathers for Hollyhocks and Phoshpor broznes for rabbits ears.

The nights start to draw in and I find that, after a difficult summer healthwise, I am starting to feel a bit like my old self. Hope I find the rest of the parish in rude health.

Via a fantasy terrain project, I am easing myself gradually back into modelling and will let you know when my attention turns to Castle Aching.

In the meantime, when bin raiding goes horribly wrong ...

Is that a beagle perchance? If so, you have my sympathies!

Good to have you back here, James. Having been through a period of Ill health earlier in the year (major bowel op) I can confirm that modelling is the answer! Now what was the question?
