RMweb Premium polybear Posted April 5, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 5, 2016 Hi, Can anyone tell me if there is a standard dimension for the width of a 00 Frame Spacer please, as used in loco chassis construction. Many thanks. Brian
Earlswood Nob
G'day all I don't think there is a standard width. The Gibson spacers are wider than the Comet spacers. Earlswood nob
RMweb Premium Roger Sunderland Posted April 5, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 5, 2016 Depends what thickness the frames are.
34theletterbetweenB&D
There should not be a standard, without a whole heap of other conditional information! This was a regular problem with many earlier loco frame kits: insufficient thought given to the effective width where the wheel backs bore, of the built up result. So underinformed teenager (this would be me) carefully builds the item and discovers that the fairly short wheelbase all flanged siz coupled needs a radius in excess of four feet. If using currently available wheelsets then for 'unconditional OO' - i.e. will definitely run on set track - use a frame spacer length to produce an effective width where the driven wheelbacks bear (and behind the wheels) of 11mm. You may go up from that width figure, but then you need to do the work to ensure that the minimum radius curve you intend using may be negotiated.
