With DCC Concepts and Peco not forthcoming on the subject of small radius points, I decided to get on with building up one using an SMP plastic base. On this example, the stock rails are Legacy Stainless Steel rail, while the other rail parts are SMP N/S.

Personally, I don't think there's much difference between the two types of rail. Obviously the N/S is much easier to file and solder and while it may tarnish more than the S/S, it will all be painted, so only polished rail tops will be seen. The sleeper spacing looks good with the Legacy track and is pretty much the same height, 3.46 against 3.36 for Legacy, while the new Peco track, of which I have purchased one point, is 3.96.

Of course, before I continue down this path and see if Marcway will supply just the plastic bases, there is the question of Engine Wood being up for sale and I am sorely tempted.

Watch this space.

Replaced the lining and added nameplates and a decent representation of a vacuum pump.

Removed the smokebox numberplate and added a decent 'dart', together with a 71E Newport (IoW) shed plate.

Not forgetting the plate on the rear of the loco.

All lining, plates and number transfers are from Modelmaster Jackson Evans. Bunker extension from Golden Arrow and vacuum pump from Alan Gibson.

Good to see another island layout, not sure how I missed this before...

For the freight stock, Cambrian do a good kit for the LBSCR 5-plank opens that formed the majority of the island's goods stock by BR days. Smallbrook studios do resin kits for the vans and brake vans, but they're not cheap...

I like the BR liveried Terrier, a good might-have-been!

After sitting on the shelf for 6 years, it was time to finish this.301966310_10162276404834012_8934341837688203212_n.jpg

Had a look at the new Peco medium radius points at ESM today. How long have we been waiting for these? Oh, 6 years. The stock is all in storage and this may see the light of day at some point in the future. But for now, the main focus is getting my D&RGW Narrow gauge layout built. Followed by my indoor winter project, Malmsmead. Also in the pipeline are a small, exhibitable HOn3 layout, then a OO layout that can also be exhibited. This may, or may not be a multi-region BLT that will allow running of stock from various parts of the country by changing a few buildings and signs.
