The Royle Family and Mrs Merton were two of her best creations, and British comedy will be much depleted with her passing. 52... that is no age to die. I always hope that it can be fought, but Ms Aherne did seem to have a history with it, having had a cancer in the retina at birth, I believe. 52 seems so young, but she at least left a legacy of humour.
