jetmorgan
How more rock & roll can railway modelling get!!! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-sussex-36769982
PatB
Good on Mr Izzard I say. The layout looks like an archetypal example of the sort of thing featured in 1960s RM "Junior Modeller" articles. Wonderful .
RMweb Premium Neil Posted July 15, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 15, 2016 I thought that the layout has great charm, all the more so because of the motivation behind its construction. Impressed by Eddie Izzard's reaction too.
RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted July 15, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 15, 2016 Just the sort of reaction I enjoy at shows, appreciating it purely for what it is without all the stereotype baggage. Mind you Eddie's never been one to worry about what others think he should do
bennyboy
That's a coincidence as I've just been watching him stamp on some poor girls chest in 'Powers'.

Yep that's him on the right in the 3rd pic down and yes he probably does share his wardrobe with Theresa May...even down to the kitten heels
RMweb Premium Mallard60022 Posted July 16, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 16, 2016 Mr Izzard became a 'hero' of mine when he did the 27 Marathons; best bit was when he had is nails replenished in some far east place I think. Excellent bloke. P
RMweb Gold John B Posted July 18, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 18, 2016 Mmmm. Maybe he's "matured". About 18 years ago I had the misfortune to sit behind Mr Izzard on a flight from Heathrow to Dublin. He was a drunken ar$e of the highest order, and behaved like a complete to$$pot to the cabin crew. I haven't been able to find him remotely funny since.
RMweb Premium Neil Posted July 19, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 19, 2016 Mmmm. Maybe he's "matured". ..... Don't we all? In no way do I want to decry your first hand experience John but I'd guess we all have some 'not proud of ourselves' moments in the past; I certainly have a few. There was an interesting piece in one of the colour supplements a few months ago about change. The short version is that generally we tend to view where we are at the present as being where we want to be and become resistant to change, yet fail to realise the huge changes in our lives that brought us to this point. It argued for embracing those aspects of change that would be positive, rather than trying to anchor one's life to a particular place, time, attitudes, beliefs, and not budge.
bike2steam
I haven't been able to find him remotely funny since. At least that's something, I've never found him funny - weird, yes.
28XX
I like the fact that it is consistently low-fi. Nothing glares out as being too naive or conversely, too high tech.
rob D2
He wins a pass as a semi train buff - I'm not normally into cross dressers. The biggest ass on a plane that the crew hated was cilla black I'm informed
RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted July 19, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 19, 2016 At least that's something, I've never found him funny - weird, yes. I didn't realise he was meant to be funny
bike2steam
With respect, but as to 'rock'n'roll, I'd have thought more like Roger Daltrey, or possibly Neil Young perhaps.
RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted July 19, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 19, 2016 It takes an eccentric character to take on multiple marathons and what he does for a living. He's as likely as anyone else to make an arse of himself when drunk but equally has raised huge amounts of money for charity and entertains many who like his sense of the ridiculous. Much like our trains if we all had the same taste we really would be in GWR BLT stereotype world I like his humour and would be interested to chat to him as he talks a lot of sense on serious programmes too. I know a few people who are great company until they're very drunk then a pain in the arse

RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted July 20, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 20, 2016 I think that's more down to silly headlines of comedy being the new rock n roll If it's R Brand they can keep it They can certainly keep the latter - although regrettably the person so named has bought a riverside property not far from our town so alas I might have the unenviable 'pleasure' of walking into him in the street. Great shame he seem to totally lack politeness because if he had any he might well step off the pavement for an older person (i.e. me) - and hopefully become more closely acquainted with our busy roads.
