About time we had some pictures of trains.

A Cravens 2 car DMU emerges from the tunnel.

I know it's going to take some time, but it's going to look good when it all comes together.

manna

I'm working on it mate!

Had to do some rearranging of the furniture and a bit of a spring clean this morning.

The new boards married up very well to Queensbury and I'm drilling holes for the point motor pins before I start to lay tons of cork. trouble is it's 80F right now and I'm feeling pooped. Mrs. S. is having a siesta:secret:

I just did a double take - I recognise that church in photo #3, Shaun!

Now you have me thinking about ivy-ing one of the walls of mine...

Cheers

Scott

Hi Scott.

It's a nice little model and I am waiting for Gaugemaster to get a hold of the tooling to add it to their Fordhampton range. If they ever do I'm gonna have another go at it by redoing the stonework and getting the colour right. That crazy paving just don't look right and you'll be forgiven if you cover 3/4s of yours in ivy!

It is massive. Are you having a bridge/tunnel, between Queensbury and Bradford Exchange ??

manna

Just a scenic break Manna. The line will run off of Queensbury through some hidden loops and over a hidden junction before emerging from under Bridge street. Then passes under Croft street bridge  and fans out into the station. The concourse forms the back drop for Exchange and the line through platform 5 sneaks through the back scene to rejoin the Queensbury lines again. forming a return loop for the whole layout! That means I'll be able to have 2 trains running in each direction and still shunt Exchange and Bridge St. Goods.

All the track in the hidden sidings is preowned Atlas flex rail and those Shinohara turnouts I got at a show a couple of years ago. They need self latching SEEP solenoids and have nice metal check rails.

SH.JPG.d5d0157d9409e364d9c54261dc23211d.JPG

They bend quite well with a little persuasion but not too much because a gap appears between the outside switch rail and the closure rail.

Must get cracking, Shaun.

Time for an update...

The skirts got a slap of paint...

2037636635_Progress(2).JPG.81c09ad8edfbc47d0e0a829cef214aad.JPG

...as did the missing fascia  on Goathland. Not before the last signal was hooked up mind.

130087683_Progress(3).JPG.9b5f7f57ab65e01eeae88a7202a214e0.JPG

Having spent most of this afternoon dealing with a broken 3 way turnout that's been sitting in the box for 25 years or so, I'm satisfied with the outcome.

Both frog feed wires had broken off! :O

The fix involved  cutting away some webbing and filling with solder to replace another missing wire.

New frog feeds have been added to the underside of the rail joiners. I then struggled with mounting two old Peco solenoid motors to it and had to figure out how to wire the thing up. It's live frog, so I hot-glued two switches to the motors. Using the multi-meter I made a colour coded sketch of the rails and labeled it "L" for left, "N" for normal and "R" for right which are upside down to the sketch! I marked one set of frogs orange and the other red, these go to the commons on the switches. The feed rails are black and green.

I then painted the underside of the turnout with corresponding colours to my sketch then  wired the whole thing up incorporating   a 4 block connector and tested to see if it worked. :fan:

Disconnecting the fan end wires from the block It was placed in the pre-cut holes so that now all I need do is reconnect the 4 wires.:dancing: Simple!

Not a fan of Peco solenoids.:ireful:

That done I could proceed with track laying. I got as far as the goods yard head shunt (the line with the BG on it) before I stopped and ran a train on Goathland. In the dark!

Having still been out in the garage as late as 10pm, I failed to touch up my last train to Whitby images.

So here we are...

Digging around in the attic I have found an old double track control unit someone gave me and when I get the chance this will be used temporally to control trains through Queensbury and when Bradford exchange gets wired up a hand held controller will be wired in to control the down line into Bradford.

The up line forms the return loop line. Trains using it will run twice around the garage and use the loop. giving a total run of 196 feet (58M)...

That's a scale 2¾ miles. :swoon:The video might be interesting!

Can do better than that...

Having laid all the track in exchanges platform roads, hooked up my spare controller and fixed a dozen problems our test train the exquisite Bachmann class 105 starts it's trip at the top of the long incline behind Goathland.

It has gone through the sneaker line into what will be platform 5 and is seen here taking the incline out of exchange.1733537189_Trip(5).JPG.ef25b504fe30c6e414016a0edd6a50ec.JPG

Now we head back to Queensbury on the newly finished scenic section of Queensbury which is on the Bradford boards and will be behind the concourse!55388654_Trip(7).JPG.57cb4eed37f3af28b75132e11dd6855c.JPG

WOW That all looks a bit complicated mate.

Yes!

Very glad that I made wiring diagrams. That return loop has caused a few shorts and I've had to add a few peco PL13 switches.

There's no wiring on the Bradford boards yet. To get the train to do the loop there are just 2 cheat wires seen in pic 5! There's a crossover in front of the tunnel which allows trains to work that route. The DMU works better than a loco and coaches for that.

Now I need to lay the good yard tracks and wire it all up. Will take the best part of 3 weeks I'm guessing.

Very impressive, strange how DMU's run so well !

manna

Thanks manna. Can't tell which end's which on a DUM! The old split chassis class 4 does the loop just as smoothly but then ends up pushing the coaches back out of the loops. One thing I've learnt is that I'm gonna need a few web cams or something to see whats what in those hidden loops. I'm toying with the idea of periscopes. Old school but could do the job.

Some explanation might be required Andy. Didn't have time to do this earlier!

The loop or up line can be used as part of the big run twice around the warehouse and around the loop. Shown dotted in green!

Trains being reversed will use the two inside lines of Queensbury. The third inside line at back (with the BG sitting on it) just cuts out using the loop.

Trains running into Exchange should otherwise use the down line by missing the sneaker line.

To achieve this some relays will be required to work with those complicated looking turnout arrangements.

Cropped OS map of the area modeled orientated to match the pic above.

there's a lot of compression but once all the large buildings have been made this shouldn't be so apparent.
