Axlebox
Its that time of year again when the good folk either side of the border put down their weapons and gather in the village hall at Stannington, Northumberland, to celebrate all that is good with the world of finescale modelling. Whilst Workshopwise is run by the NE & Borders area group of the EM Gauge society, all are welcome whatever you scale/gauge combination. There will be an abundance of demonstrators, a gaggle of finescale layouts and the charms of Doctor Dave Dunn and his never ending slide show from the archives of the Armstrong Trust. If thats not enough to tempt you out of your armchair, then there is the catering...which is of an even better standard than the models on dispaly...don't take my word for it, come and try the bacon butties in the morning and the cakes in the afternoon. Also present will be Tynedale Trains, Smart Models, the extraordinarily good people from Lanarkshire models and our cousins from the Cumbrian Railways Association. Whilst you're up/down this way you could always stop for a pint next door at the Ridley Arms... http://sjf.co.uk/our-pubs/the-ridley-arms/ ...or nip into Morpeth to stock up on some North Country/South of the border cheese... http://www.thecheeseshopmorpeth.co.uk/ ...and whilst you're in Morpeth why not visit the all new model shop (its so new I've not been myself yet) https://www.facebook.com/Jandjmodels/ ...and Morpeth is so switched on they even have a micropub by the bridge... https://whatpub.com/pubs/TYN/6918/office-morpeth Above all else just come and enjoy some damn fine model trains. Saturday 15th October 10:30 to 16:30...and there will be some sort of charge for entry. Axlebox PS Stannington is on the A1 just 17 and a half minutes north of Newcastle

Axlebox
Can one get there by bus? you can indeed...there are 2 services, one from/to Newcastle and Morpeth and the 2nd from/to Morpeth only... https://www.arrivabus.co.uk/globalassets/documents/north-east-services-documents/northumberland-september-2015/neje44_060915cutaps.pdf and https://bustimes.org.uk/services/NE_310_PB9957_S1 (scroll along for the Saturday service)

Porcy Mane
I've been told the car park is excellent for spotting hordes of men with silvering hair (or no hair at all) gazing skywards in the approximate direction of Woolsington and proclaiming, "I CAN HEAR IT!" You're right about the car park. Big innit. Free as well which has to be unusual in this day and age. https://goo.gl/maps/fbjEfHHKRns The omnibus stop is also a bit unusual, not for the absolute lack of obligatory graffiti but for services heading in both the north and south direction stopping at the self same (northbound) bus shelter! Another advantage is the venue lies only a few yards from the main London to Edinburgh highway which can also come in useful if you are also travelling from Edinburgh to London. (But not at the same time) The catering is also whizzo. Bang on.
Axlebox
https://goo.gl/maps/fbjEfHHKRns As you can see from Porseas link the pub really is right next door! More information from the NE & Borders group... Traders attending will also include Dave Alexander. Layouts attending include, Middle Peak, Croft Depot and Seahouses Satnav directions, NE61 6EL Entrance fee £3 A/box

Sadly, I don't imagine anyone hearing IT this year or ever again.... But sounds a cracking event
RMweb Premium Torper Posted September 23, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 23, 2016 But sounds a cracking event Indeed it does - but sadly just a bit far for me to go for a one day event. I sometimes think that, at least as far as finescale modellers are concerned, events such as this and the recent 101 Not Out will eventually replace conventional exhibitions. Porcy Mane
I was led to believe that the EMGS didn't organise anything for it's members in the grim North? Quite a few folk class Manchester as being in the North and quite grim. Stannington is most certainly in the north and it lies on the Great North Road. Some use condition of local bus shelters (if they haven't been demolished) as an indicator of griminess. Stannington's is graffiti free and un- perfumed. https://goo.gl/maps/JMJB7dNtowF2 Workshop wise is not being held in the bus shelter but it is in an equally clean and graffiti free hall almost directly opposite. Axlebox
Only 3 more days to go before Workshop Wise this year...so I've been out doing a bit of research... The all new model shop in Morpeth is down a side alley, just around the corner from the cheese shop, its small with limited stock but very friendly staff and has the basics (paint, glue etc) https://www.facebook.com/Jandjmodels/ The micropub by the bridge is the brewery tap for Acton Ales...for research purposes I have tried the 3 Acton ales on offer and they do have a house 'style' which my partner described as 'biscuity'...there were 6 ales on offer of which 5 were 'golden' ales. https://whatpub.com/.../office-morpeth I could get into this research thing, next stop the cheese shop... Axlebox
Another great little show...all credit to the North East and Borders section of the EM Gauge Society for organising such a good event. Like John I managed to play trains for a bit aswell and then spent the rest of the day watching Dr Dave Dunn's film show, whilst eating some of the best cake to have graced an exhibition kitchen. Roll on next year.
