PenrithBeacon
Have any of these been preserved? I'd like to take some pictures. Alternatively if there are any references to books I'd be grateful. Regards

It seems to be a lot more complex than I thought. The PH Designs kit looks good but is only available in 00. Regards

Guy Rixon
There's the pit and approach tracks for a wagon turntable on Exeter keyside. The table itself is not there.
RMweb Gold SHMD Posted October 15, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 15, 2016 I think the one at Mossley has been "preserved" underneath the station car park! Not much help, I know, but I intend to model it so would be very interested in pics of Mossley's goods yard and wagon turntable and any pics of wagon turntables in general. (Bing pictures is quite useful but everything goggle has stopped working for me...) Kev.
Fat Controller
A latter-day wagon turntable is still to be seen in modern railway workshops; we (Eurotunnel) have them under the bogie drops. Bogies are dropped on to the turntable, turned through ninety degrees, then pushed under part of the workshop floor, before being brought to floor level on a second turntable. PenrithBeacon
This morning I received a copy of MRJ No11. Has a good article on wagon turntables with particular reference to the LNWR ones. These seem to have been planked, but Jack Nicolson, in his book LNWR Portrayed, has a perspective sketch of one which isn't planked, but appears to be cast. The planked one seems to be reasonably easy to reproduce in 4mm. I might have a go sometime. Thanks for all the replies. Regards

Jenny Emily
There are at least two in Hull on Railway Street by the Marina. The cobbles are new, and the two turntables and some rails seem to have been left as some kind of aesthetic feature. I don't know if the turntables are in their original locations, but I do remember in the 1980s that there were around three of these still left in the area, and they were then in situ in their original locations. I remember the third one had lost parts of its deck and these had been filled in with tarmac; it doesn't appear that this one survives. https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@53.7396155,-0.3388925,3a,75y,8.38h,66.22t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1soR-PCwmJV9RVl0Qt3DuTVw!2e0!7i13312!8i6656?hl=en

I get the impression from a bit of research this morning that this is H&BR not NER (not that this makes much of a difference post 1922). Whether the boarding on the turntable is prototypical or not I don't know. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hull_and_Barnsley_Railway#/media/File:Hull_RJD_37.JPG .
