backofanenvelope
Wouldn't of minded those when I was commuting to London some years ago. Good they kept access as well.
pete_mcfarlane
I'm intruiged about the extra acceleration bringing reduced journey times. I was on a HT service a couple of years back where the class 180 managed to get from King's Cross to Grantham in 55 minutes (with no stops), before sitting there for nearly 5 minutes waiting for the scheduled departure time. So clearly there's a bit of slack in the current timetable with the existing units.
RMweb Gold Market65 Posted November 2, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 2, 2016 Will 5 car units have enough capacity? The services are busy today at 5 cars, and I would have thought 6 or 7 cars would be better for the future. Regards, Rob.
Zomboid
They apparently offer 20% more seats than the existing trains... There's probably a benefit in having trains that are very similar in performance to the IEPs on the route.
RMweb Gold russ p Posted November 2, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 2, 2016 The ECML is going to be a very dull railway in a couple of years. If the IEP is the same bodyshell as the javelin they aren't exactly designed for a long distance Inter-city trains

If the IEP is the same bodyshell as the javelin they aren't exactly designed for a long distance Inter-city trains It's not exactly thrilling now though, is it? Once the IEP introduction is complete, the intercity trains will be IEPs (VT, TPE & HT), short set 91s (VT), Vomiters (XC) and 180s (GC). IEPs will just replace HSTs, though the mix will be different.TPE may also have their LHCS on the ECML, which will be an increase in interest. The IEPs for VTEC replace most of the 91/Mk4s, apart from a few shortened sets, as well as the HSTs. Once TPE get their IEP clones, the LHCS sets switch to the Middlesborough services, so will just be on the ECML from Colton Jn to Northallerton
