These few picture were taken during our Wednesday visit this week. First, the Hall which was shown last week after its initial weathering, now with new name plates, crew and coal plus more detailed weathering effects.

I had forgotten to mention during my last few entries, that Nick and I were once again able to participate in the Southern Locomotives Ltd drive and fire days held in November, so as an antidote to the diesels and western region things happening recently here is an in cab picture of Sir Kieth Park during our turn.

As always, thanks must go to the Swanage railway staff without whom these events would not be possible. In this picture, the loco has just uncoupled and the swanage driver is starting the run round of the coaches.

Good old Bulleid pacifics.

Just thinking though, I have a class 45 which could benefit from a dusting with an air brush. Diesels are not to bad as long as they are green.

More weathering during todays visit to Coleborne, plus a bus shelter for the Wimhill beach visiters plus a few seagulls, attracted by the chip shop probably.

BUT FIRST.

What can I say. £ 210 .00 from Model Railway Solutions. Poole. I believe this is probably the best price in the country. Incredible model.

My class 45 did find room in the queue at the spray booth today. Pictures tomorrow.

I must start today by making it clear that neither Nick or myself have, apart from being customers, any connection with Model Railway Solutions from whom the Bachmann crane was purchased.

Now, my own class 45. This is an elderly Bachmann model and although I have always liked it, Nicks weathering has brought it to life

Plus his own Auto coach, still more to do on this but really looks the part with the Pannier.

Just returned from a Two and a half hour bird cruise around Poole harbour in one of the local tourist boats. Having now spent an hour in front of the fire at home, use of my fingers etc is now returning. It did though, remind me that I had intended to put on here the picture of Sea gulls at Wimhill.  ( These have not been weathered. )

The standing gull seems to have very large feet, may have to manicure them next visit.

And finally.

Nearly there. Mid summer 2020 ?

Very happy Christmas and new year. Regards Brian. ( wireman )

Having settled in for a short afternoon nap after a brief walk on the local nature reserve this morning, I was woken by the arrival of several pictures received on my mobile via What's app. Having grown up with having to send my camera film to True print or one of the other similar companies, waiting a week or so to find that all the pictures were rubbish, I never fail to marvel at the technology that enables people to send photos. to others the moment they have been taken. These are just such a case.  Hot from the phone are before and after shots of 6816 Frankton Grange, obviously Nick does not need an afternoon nap and sees no reason why any one else should.

So, Frampton grange. Before and after.

I'm hoping to have a play with the airbrush myself at some point, wiil send film to Trueprint so I will have some one to blame for the results.

Cold and wet visit to the New Years Day annual bath tub race at Poole Quay this morning, it was, well, cold and wet. Could not really see very much as it was extremely crowded. Never the less, after much throwing of flour bombs and eggs, a good time was had by all. Just as you thought it was safe to go back in the water, I have more pictures of the Grange of which I am assured is now finished. Coal, crew and a few fine details have been added and certainly looks the part.

Last weeks visit to Coleborne was on Friday, during which the subject of working room for the spray booth was discussed. Certainly, things are a little cramped when the booth is set up, leaving Nick very little room to spread the ever growing number of pots, brushes etc. required. Plus, although not that loud, the running of the compressor and extractor fan together with the obligatory radio 2 all adds up. The answer obviously would be to have a seperate area for this activity. A small shed / building ajacent to the main railway room would be ideal, but where?

Probably big enough, just needs clearing , lay a base, erect building, fit insulation, a bench, few shelfs, electrickery for lights and power etc. No worries.

Probably be banned from attending Coleborne before long.

Mean while. The push pull set has been given a light weathering along the  underframes and roofs .

Wednesday visit this week if I have not been banned.

Regards Brian.  ( wireman ).

P.S. I did have a quick blast with the airbrush on a baggage van  and although may be a little heavy handed, it  should be dry soon.

No. Planning permission refused. Nick has a much better plan for the spray booth. Details early Spring ?

Next, my first go with the airbrush, with tuition and further detailing by Nick, here is the finished van.

This vehicle belongs to Coleborne but my own PMV from Brampton Road will be making a visit for similar treatment soon.

During last weeks visit, I tried to fix two gulls flying over the cliff top. No amount of trying different angles seemed to look right, then I realised that it was because of the shadow being created below them. I took this picture in subdued lighting to eliminate this problem, but I am not happy withthe result and will have a re-think about these two.

A couple more pictures of 4575 now with added details and crew. The crew are from a standard Bachmann pack but have been re-posed using a hot air gun.

It does take considerable amount of heat to bend these figures, a normal hairdryer is not hot enough, a paint stripper gun seems the only way.  I have no idea if this releases any toxins harmful to health, but if any one has knowledge of these things, please let us know.

Another occasional picture of the real thing. What was it and what will it be again ?  ( one day ). No prizes.

Good to see the M7 being worked on, it looked sad sitting at the London end of siding 1 at Swanage.

Not a great deal to report a the moment , but a couple of pictures of a 5 plank wagon, weathered to be used as  part of the breakdown train.

  • 1 month later...

Not a great deal to report since my last post in January. I did attend the Eastleigh show which was very good. Apart from the entrance fee, tea and pasty, my entire spend came to £ 4 .15P. Attention at the moment is concentrated on fitting out a shed to house the Spray booth and sundries. Unfortunately the present period of self isolation means we are unable to attend and help with this.

A couple of pictures taken during a visit to Coleborne last week. First, a visiting class 33. Very smart with excellent sound.
