jpendle
I have just read in Railway Herald that most of the Freightliner Cl70's are in store and that they are intending to use pairs of Class 90's instead. Are they having problems with the 70's? Thanks, John P
RMweb Premium njee20 Posted February 1, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 1, 2017 They'll struggle to get pairs of 90s to Southampton, where there often seem to be 70s!
royaloak
I think its a question of lack of work for all the locos they have and a lack of staff knowledge about the 70s. Easier to keep one fleet in traffic than two when there is only enough work for so many locos!
bennyboy
There's already a thread about them. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/119384-freightliner-class-70s/
RMweb Gold MarshLane Posted February 2, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 2, 2017 I have just read in Railway Herald that most of the Freightliner Cl70's are in store and that they are intending to use pairs of Class 90's instead. Are they having problems with the 70's? Thanks, John P Lack of knowledge and performance isn't what they'd hoped I'm told. One of the mags (might have been Railway Herald) had a picture of, I think, 13 Class 70s in a line at Midland Road a couple of weeks back. Only being used on a couple of flows that really need them now, as there is better utilisation if the 66 fleet to replace them.

Western Dave
They'll struggle to get pairs of 90s to Southampton, where there often seem to be 70s! Not sure how a 90 (even pairs) would work on third rail
