Merfyn Jones
Hi all Does anyone know what kind of bus the Royal Scotsman coach is? And if there is a model available in OO Gauge? Cheers What period are we talking about ? I have a photo of one from 20 years ago, but assume it has been replaced by now. I think a Volvo B9M. The body by Caetano. Not available as a model as far as I know.
RMweb Premium Hilux5972 Posted February 13, 2017 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted February 13, 2017 Yep that's the one. Pity it's not available as a model. Guess I'll have to find one that is close enough.
mikeharvey22
This list shows it as having a Volvo B10M chassis, and a Caetano C41F body. First registered in June 1986. New to O'Neill of Gillingham. You'll need to scroll down to the CnnnRVV registration. Caetano imported two body types at the time:- Algarve and Optimo. http://www.buslistsontheweb.co.uk/index.htm?http://www.buslistsontheweb.co.uk/year.asp?Year=C&Type=8&Page=7 You might want to search the kit makers lists on this page in case one makes a similar body. Choose Model Kits from the tab on the left. http://modelbuszone.co.uk/
RANGERS
The coach in the pic is indeed a Volvo B10M, one of the short B10M-46 versions more commonly known as B9M. The body is a Caetano Algarve 1, as far as I know never produced in kit form but a line to The Model Bus Federation might confirm. I'm not sure who was operating it during its Scotsman days, it had been new to Kings Ferry (O'Neill) but it passed to a Scottish operator before it was kitted out for the Royal Scotsman duties. kevblokey
Slightly more up to date, and yes, there is a Corgi casting available of this, just not in these colours. I can confirm there is no such kit available, not even of the more common 12m version. The B9M like that is a rarity and I don't think I've ever seen one before. The operator was the Great Scottish & Western Railway Company, based in Edinburgh. Those pictured here are the only two coaches they ever operated. RMweb Premium Hilux5972 Posted February 26, 2017 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted February 26, 2017 So, Hilux5972, do you fancy doing a relivery of the Corgi OOC Van Hool Alizée? That one looks pretty good to me. Right shape, correct number of doors on the passenger side i.e. 1 lol. Yes it's not exactly the same but it captures the essence pretty well. If I can get hold of Royal Scotsman paint then I will be away laughing.

I have used Halfords Vauxhall Burgundy Red for my Royal Scotsman coaches and it looks good to me.
RMweb Premium Hilux5972 Posted March 5, 2017 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted March 5, 2017 Thanks Merf. I'll have a hunt for some. Do you have any pics of the coaches you made?
Merfyn Jones
Thanks Merf. I'll have a hunt for some. Do you have any pics of the coaches you made? I was lucky to buy via ebay a complete set of Scotsman coaches already converted but not finished. I have nearly finished them including painting. Some photos somewhere but I will have to find them. Found them ! A few more completed since then.
