Ruston
Evening all, I am currently building a 2-2-2 locomotive in OO and am having problems in getting it to stay on the track - http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/128166-boultons-number-11/page-2 The main cause appears to be the carrying wheels, which are Alan Gibson 2'8" 10-spoke bogie/tender wheels. The problem is that the flanges are very fine in depth, in fact finer than other Alan Gibson wheels that I have had, including the driving wheels on this locomotive. They came in a packet with the yellow card and were supposed to be for OO and EM but I am wondering if I have been given P4 wheels by mistake? Can someone who has these wheels in any of the 4mm varieties please measure the diameter of their wheels over the flanges and let me know the measurement and what variety, please? Thanks Edited December 13, 2017 by Ruston
RMweb Premium Michael Edge Posted December 14, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 14, 2017 If they are P4 tyres they will be thinner, about 2mm instead of 2.35mm wide
Ruston
Thanks, Mike. They measure 2.1mm against the 2.3 of the drivers, so I guess they are P4.
Dave Holt
P4 wheels have a flange depth of about 0.5 mm, so if your O/D over the flanges is only 1 mm bigger than the tread diameter, then they are P4. Dave.
