RMweb Gold Metr0Land Posted December 21, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 21, 2017 I need to scratch-build a little water tower and associated bits which aren't too challenging. However I'm wondering how people manage to get a realistic looking canvas bag for the flexible bit on the end. Does anyone have an example pls? timbowilts
I haven't tried this technique yet but our colonial cousins across the Atlantic use tea bags (suitably emptied) to represent canvas loco cab curtains so perhaps that is a possibility? RMweb Gold Roy Langridge Posted December 21, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 21, 2017 (edited) This any good? I would have thought 4mm was about right: https://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/Cotton-Tube-Sheath-Cover-Cable-Wire-Sleeve-Sleeving-4mm-6mm-8mm-/282576509422 Roy Edited December 21, 2017 by Roy Langridge
RMweb Gold The Johnster Posted December 21, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 21, 2017 Sticking plaster (Band Aid/Elastoplast)? I once made the canvas weather sheet for an old Airfix Dean Goods out of this material, painted mucky brown and stretched from the cab roof to the attachemnt points on the tender. and, while not exactly fine scale modelling, the loco worked at exhibitions and attracted not unfavourable comment. I am happy with the pieces of rubber tubing that came with my Ratio kit on my water column, but suspect the 4mm firemen find it a bit stiff. They can't really complain much being a) a bit stiff themselves, and b) models, not real people...
RMweb Gold TheSignalEngineer Posted December 21, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 21, 2017 I used an old shoe lace of suitable width painted and weathered some years ago.
David Bigcheeseplant
I use paper, no need to go for anything with texture.
Nick Holliday
Would black heat shrink tubing work? It comes in lots of sizes, in steps of 0.8 mm from 1.6mm.
