R2656 appears to have the older, rather clumsy large couplings, which were moulded on as part of the bogie frame. Later models do have NEM pockets and much smaller couplings fitted.

You can buy replacement bogie frames with the NEM pockets from the likes of Peter's Spares or AC Models, but that does add to the overall cost of your model.

If you mean the latest release then yes it does have the NEM socket, my question was about a 2007/8 release.

 

AFAIK this had the old style 'chunky' (ex-Lima?) couplings (the reason I say AFAIK and not definitely is because mine actually has the narrow couplings, but I'm sure that's because the shop I bought it from swapped the bogies with one of the others that had already had narrow ones.)
