What is the closest I can get to the wagon Tyseley 100 pulls?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Wondering if anyone can help me out... I am more of a DMU fan so don't know much about wagons...

What is the closest RTR model I can get of the wagon on the back? Obviously I will have to add the skips on separately but I can do that...

I have come across this:

http://www.hattons.co.uk/59356/Bachmann_Branchline_33_902_45_ton_bogie_well_wagon_in_BR_Departmental_black/StockDetail.aspx

(but there is a big gap which this one doesn't have)

and this:

(but the slope seems very out)

If there isn't anything closer please let me know which you think is closest! Thanks in advance.

ex-GWR Loriot machinery wagon, I think.

Not available r-t-r but Cambrian do a kit for a "Chaired Sleeper Wagon" which is fairly close.

There's probably an etched or cast kit out there somewhere but I'm not too well up on what's available in that area.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

Assuming I've found the right link this seems to not have the slope though?

That's the one I've been looking for but couldn't find on their website.*

The straight bits along the top are removeable bracing struts designed to stop the wagon distorting when heavily loaded. They aren't there on the Tyseley wagon.

* Currently shown as "out of stock" but there is a photo of a completed one without the struts in place.

its a late build Flatrol MVV - it has roller bearings http://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/brflatrolmvv  Probably lot 3257 for the Engineers. That Wrenn Lowmac should be available for pennies - mass produced and put in Airfix railway sets. Often annoyingly has a wooden crate glued to the deck.

There has been a topic on this forum about building an etched kit.

There are other internal users wagons listed at Tyseley (search for location):

I modelled the ACLG's 998017 using a Cambrian kit with a new floor, I'm not sure which but it looks like the one with more substantial vertical plates as I was able to cut them away at an angle. There are a few things I'd have done differently and it needs repairing as it has sagged...

Wow, that looks very useful, thanks. Does the kit come with the plastic which curves over the axle aera?

That is from planked plasticard, I probably meant to fill the grooves or overlay a thin piece, but never got round to it or needed to paint it quickly. The deck is 30.5mm across, probably measured from the real one.

I did mention that this wagon type was a topic earlier ww.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/92817-br-flatrol-mvv-diagram-2512/?hl=flatrol

Yes, I did read that post. I found it slightly confusing as the link you posted too seemed to show a different type of wagon to the type suggested, perhaps you were just saying the "best fit RTR" type as I originally asked, but everyone else has been so specific that probably confused me a tad! The wrenn lowmacs certainly seem to sell on ebay for more than pennies. The grey ones (which is what I need unless respray) seem to go for extortionate amounts.

Sorry, the photo is a Flatrol MVV and the article is about Flatrol MVV. Look at the side with the 45 degree slope - a very characteristic design. http://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/brflatrolmvv http://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/deptflatrolmvv

There is no way this is a GWR sleeper wagon, Loriot or a Lowmac. The Airfix (not kit) Lowmac has been on sale for many years; Wrenn are just an expensive form of the same thing. There is no RTR fit.
