I know that some sections of this railway were in use during the noughties, but now the British coal industry is pretty well dead, is any part of it still in use?

A chunk is used as a test track at Tuxford/High Marnham.

There's a plan floating around to re-open passenger service to Edwinstowe and Ollerton as a branch of the Robin Hood Line.  The stumbling block, as always, is likely to be money or the lack of it.

The Portland Hotel at the west end of Chesterfield Market Place was built by the LDECR and is in use as a Wetherspoons. The actual station was immediately to the right of the hotel as you look at it from the front. Not quite what you were expecting?

A facebook group exists showing old photos and up-to-date news. Latest is the ripping up of Thoresby Colliery sidings and connection to the LDEC running lines.

I was on a saloon three years ago down there and there were various interested parties onboard such as Derbyshire and Nottingham council staff.

They said there would be a service to Ollerton by the end of 2016 ......

Speaking to people I know round that way they say most people who commute do to Chesterfield and Sheffield rather than Nottingham, shame the Clowne branch was ripped up as that would provide the necessary links for both these destinations
