Black5
Afternoon all. I`ve recently found an M T K, 50FT Full Brake kit that I`d forgotten I had when having a sort out. A couple of questions I`d like to ask.please. The kit is a pressing with sides and roof all in one, with window openings all in place.Having never built an Aluminium kit like this before, would an ordinary car primer work or is there something else I should use when getting to the painting stage? The other question is, the kit came with plastic coach wheels and I will replace them with metal ones. Using brass bearing cups, would Hornby coach wheels work? Not sure if they are pinpoint or not. Many thanks, Cheers just now, Jim.
Nearholmer
Halfords sell a spray etch-primer that I found grabbed well on aluminium land rover panels.
JZ
Give it a damn good scrub with Cif, or similar, cream cleaner before you start. Handle it with gloves when assembling and give it a good wash and make sure its warm when you spray it.
47164
Halfords grey primer works a treat after a good clean as previously noted, its dries quickly, but allow a 24 hrs of so before any topcoats.
N15class
For priming aluminium you really need to use etching primer. This is true of all non ferrous metals
Irish_R_M
HMG make a metal Primer in a spray can, and is simply the best primer on the market. https://shop.princeaugust.ie/brands/HMG-Paints.html That's the chap if you can source it locally. RM
Il Grifone
Hornby coach wheels should be OK. they have a 26mm pin-point axle (or at least the ones I have do). Unfortunately they have priced themselves out of the market of late.
