I’ve just come back from seeing the Mario brothers movie in the cinema, didn’t know what to expect as it was my 13rd old who wanted to see it but it was really really good!

lots of references to various Nintendo games and even one to an obscure ‘glitch’ on mario kart 8 rainbow road, worth a watch if you like Nintendo stuff

So prior to Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores (already downloaded, goes live midnight tonight I guess) and then SW Jedi: Survivor taking up a large chunk of my life I decided to take advantage of the inclusion of Left Alive in my subscription package on PS+ Extra, especially as it is due to be withdrawn mid May. A subscription paid trial if you like.

If the blurb is to be believed for Left Alive, WOW! DUDE FROM METAL GEAR SOLID, DUDE FROM GHOST IN THE SHELL, DUDE FROM TITANFALL! Which is as maybe. What those dudes contributed to the game is some art direction sketches on the back of napkins.

Nobody involved in the production of it apparently had much thought for enjoyable game mechanics.

This is IGN's take, and I fully endorse the reviewer's opinion, I feel their pain, and I only played one hour:

https://www.ign.com/articles/2019/03/13/left-alive-review

My back of the box quote: "Left Alive, best left alone, C6T."

You may have heard about the Gambling White Paper announced in Parliament the other day. From a gaming perspective it only really made my ears prick up when the Shadow Culture Secretary made her first response.

Whilst the bill is ostensibly to advance gambling regulations to better reflect the move to the online space plus improved demarcation between that and the bricks & mortar Bingo Halls and casinos, the Shadow minister raised a number of issues not covered in the initial paper.

She had a limited time to reel off her concerns but did make specific mention of loot-boxes in gaming, specifically those aimed at children.

I suspect when the debates actually begin and the paper starts the ping-pong between the Commons and the other place, it'll be amended to heaven and back.

I suspect the vast majority, of member of both houses, are completely oblivious to what any of that means.

(So no difference then, to other areas of legislation, requiring indepth specialst knowledge!)

Btw, I'm currently grinding the Burning Shores dlc of Horizon Forbidden West, getting Aloy even more badass by upgrading her arsenal via farming machines for parts. Took down a Thunderjaw and a Slaughterspine in quick succession earlier today so working out well.

SW Jedi: Survivor definitely next on my to play list, sale or no. I liked Fallen Order very much and despite Eurogamer's rather luke (arf!) warm review it sounds brill'.

And Mark Hamill has had a hand in it too:

You're probably correct Kev, but that might not necessarily be a bad thing.

If those debating the paper are knowledgeable, the process may go through swifter than if a bunch of bad actors on the take from pro-gambling lobbying were doing it.

I think the paper has kinda satisfied most Commons members by specifically distancing online from if you were a member of a constituency that had a racecourse or b&m bingo/casino.

However, I only mentioned it as the Shadow mentioned loot-boxes. Anything else is outside the remit of the Lounge.

Cool story bro, well for better or worse you won't be doing Burning Shores will you Martin. Given your reticence to purchase a PS5?

(I should perhaps point out that for reasons known only to themselves, Sony released HFW on PS4&5 but the expansion is only available on PS5, because clouds apparently.)

I normally don't make the mistake of buying stuff at launch (or a couple of days early in this case due to the download size and my slow connection), but once again I did with Jedi Survivor. Fortunately I've not had any serious performance issues with it, sure, it's not been perfect, the occasional stutter, and one crash, but it's been perfectly playable and a good (and rather larger) followup to Fallen Order so far. The biggest performance annoyance is that it rebuilds shaders every single launch.

Just bought a PS5 from the Argos returns store in walsall, £389, it’s a 825GB disc version, it says its rhe God of war edition but as it refurbished I’m not expecting to find it on the hard drive and there’s no download code included, not a hardship if it’s not there, don’t even know what god of war is!

I think my lad still has his PlayStation subscription running from his old PS4 so hopefully get it up and running tonight with that account, maybe download Grand Tourismo for it

Amazon have a 2TB Corsair SSD for the PS5 at £131 Which is nice.

Friend of mine just bought and fitted one of these, he's chuffed to bits with it. He thought AC: Odyssey was broken when he launched it from the SSD but realised the loading time is so swift, there's literally little or no time for the loading screen!

Enjoy Jim (and family) it's a great bit of kit. Your lad should love GT7 on it in his rig!

All PS5s are (cough) 800Gb, however only 600Gb is available for user storage purposes so do look into expansion. Drive out the back or under the bonnet or both.

Get onto the PSStore as soon as you can once installed Jim. PlayStation made a number of best selling PS4 titles available for no outlay to PS5 owners at launch (a marketing sweetener because of the lack of PS5 specific titles). However I know PS are withdrawing the offer this month. I don't have the date to hand, but my iffy memory suggests it might be May 15th? Either way, get in there and claim them if you still can, they won't cost you cash or storage space, but they'll be in the Library if and when they're wanted.

In other news, I pushed the button on SW Jedi: Survivor, looking forward to playing. Also Deluxe Edition PGA Tour Golf was reduced to around 50 quid.

NFS: Unbound is currently 70% off on PSStore, but I'm undecided on that 'cos I can't figure if it's trying a little bit too hard to be down wid da kidz.

Either way, I reckon EA have done alright out of me today!

I got one since it was a ridiculous bargain compared the the XBox drives (I paid £150 for 1TB). A liitle overkill right now for the single PS5 game I have...

when Dom accessed his account there were loads of PS3 and PS4 games in his library from the last time he had a PlayStation in 2018, things like red dead redemption and gran tourismo sport etc, we’ve only downloaded GT sport so far, looking for a cheap copy of GT7 rather than paying full price as a download, CDKeys have some out but there is a physical copy on Amazon warehouse for £41 which I may get

i was looking at the gold game and NFS as well, a lot of outlay that could go on locos instead!

Set the ps5 up in the layout room with the projector and surround sound, Dom took his gaming rig in and set up the wheel from the Xbox which should have worked but apparently Sony did a firmware update in feb which prevents other branded Logitech 920 wheels working with the PS5, only their GT branded ones will now work, this is gran tourismo sport (ps4 version)

Got GT7 on disc from CEX but it’s taking an age to download to the machine so he’s left it running in snooze mode while it does so, also got another controller too

You can be a bit canny if any of you has Game Pass for XBOX. I'd leave the multi platform titles for Game Pass and just use the Sony kit for PlayStation exclusives which would be masterpieces such as the Horizon games, Ghost of Tsushima etc.

The PS+ subscription service must've changed since Dom last looked I'm guessing? It's three tier now with various benefits attached.

Essential being the one necessary for online multiplayer and cloud saves.

Extra has a few more games available to the Library, but be warned they can be withdrawn.

Premium adds in additional titles and whatever.

I have enough of putting up with rubbish from MS at work to end up actually spending my own money on them. At the time they launched a console, in the business computer world they were working really hard to kill off Netware.

Quite a few older IT professionals are not fans of MS.

I do miss a few games, but there are plenty more on other formats. Currently deep in Horizon Forbidden West.
