Midnight-Freight
Hi, I've just picked up a secondhand Bachmann class 66, model number 32-730, which was advertised as being DCC ready. It didn't work on my DC layout and after taking the body off I've found it has a lenz 8 pin decoder fitted. I understand it will need to have a blanking plug fitted to run on DC but are they model/manufacturer specific or are they generic?
RMweb Premium Ray H Posted June 2, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 2, 2018 They're generic as far as I know. You should be able to find one fairly easily I would have thought as people who want to convert their DC locos to DCC will generally be discarding them. I have a few. Do you know anyone local who might have one? You might also be able to sell/swap for the Lenz if you no longer need it.
Midnight-Freight
Ah OK thanks. Shouldn't be too hard to Get hold of then. Could be a bargain then if it works OK and I got a free decoder. I'll hang on to it as plan on going DCC in the future.
10000
If you know anyone with DCC you could get them to check DC is turned on in the decoder and leave it in. The default is ON but some people turn it off

RMweb Gold Phil Bullock Posted June 2, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 2, 2018 Best to take chip out and fit blanking plate Performance of chips on DC causes issues PM me if you want a Bachmann blanking plate - have plenty and already heading for the post office.... RAF96
Some manufacturers are installing the DC suppression components on their blanking plates so the old generic double - L shaped shorting device would not bring these back to spec. Rob
