invercloy
Thanks Jackrob, there are plenty of photos on the thread on the old forum linked to in the OP of this thread. I'll post some more as and when there's something new to show.
invercloy
I've started a new blog to show some details of Dunbracken's successor. invercloy
Well, Dunbracken is all ready to be packed up for the trip to Valkenburg tomorrow. If anyone from here comes along to the exhibition then come and say hi!
JohnDMJ
Have a great trip, Tom! Good Luck.
invercloy
Thanks John. It went really well, a very friendly show and I had a fantastic weekend. I got an invite to a show in Utrecht next year and the layout was photographed by 2 pro photographers at the exhibition, one to feature in a report of the exhibiton, and the other for an article in one of the top Dutch railway magazines. I took plenty of photos this weekend, here's my flickr set if anyone is interested:

invercloy
Eurospoor? OnTraxs, unfortunately I've just found out the dates and it's the same weekend as my stag do. So i've asked to defer the invite to 2012.
Will Vale
A bit late here since I've been mired in travel, but we really enjoyed seeing Dunbracken at Valkenburg - fantastic stuff. We enjoyed everything we saw, but I think yours was honestly my favourite - the greenery in front of the fiddle yard in particular is a work of art. I don't know how much chance you had to explore the museum, but did you find the Ruston on the flat wagon in the shed? Quite unusual to find an industrial loco in "as last in service" condition. Cheers, Will
invercloy
Thanks, Will, your comments are very kind. For me my favourite will always be the Craigcorrie & Dunalastair Railway which was showing opposite Dunbracken, so to hear you say mine was your favourite is praise indeed! I got to see most of the museum, plus a trip to the 'special' shed, see the Flickr widget a few posts back in this thread for some of the shots I took there, an INCREDIBLE collection. invercloy
Well, the time is fast approaching when Dunbracken and I will be parting ways. I won't say where it's going yet until it's left my hands just in case something goes amiss. Here are some photos of both the layout under construction, and finished, to try and round off this thread nicely. Trackplan produced by François Fontana for the article in Voie Libre. Early days at the quay. Rare photo of the whole layout in early stages. Rare photo of the whole layout in early stages. Scenery begins to appear along the burn. Scribed das completed on the quay. More progress on the Puffer, and the station building has appeared. The Ferry Inn and the croft has now been completed. Langley horse and cart now added, and the Golden Arrow Sharpie in the background. NO, it's NOT the Langley one! The water tower emerges at the end of the platform. Carpet underlay added to the area around the bridge. The puffer protected whilst the water in the base of the harbour sets around it. The remains of the mineral chute are added to the quay. Overview of the station and yard. Staffa arrives with a goods train. Uist pulls into the station with a passenger train. Ted Polet's "Shaka Zulu" from the Craigcorrie & Dunalastair Railway, taken whilst on our trip to exhibit at Valkenburg for the weekend. Taken at Valkenburg for the feature in Rail Magazine Taken at Valkenburg for the feature in Rail Magazine Taken at Valkenburg for the feature in Rail Magazine Taken at Valkenburg for the feature in Rail Magazine It's been a VERY good experience building, operating and exhibiting Dunbracken. It's been nice to actually finish a layout! Thanks to those of you who have taken an interest in it's construction, commented on it here, and said hello at exhibitions. Now I can clear a little more space in the loft for a permanent workbench. After Isle Ornsay is completed another small layout will appear.
invercloy
Well, the final day of operation on the Glencloy Light Railway came to an end only a little over an hour ago. Here are some images of the final day. All the trains carried large heather wreaths* on their front to commemorate the occasion. Barra arrives with the early train. Barra and Staffa head the special into Dunbracken whilst the railcar waits to depart. In all the years of operation of the line this is the first time that passenger trains have passed here - it was required due to the large number of locals and enthusiasts who wanted one final glimpse of the line in action. The final train was a simple single header with two coaches and brake van hauled by Barra, Staffa having been packed off to the sheds ready for the forthcoming auction to sell off the line's stock. Apparently the majority of items are suspected to go to an elusive narrow gauge enthusiast in the Surrey area and aren't expected to see the light of day in the public eye for some considerable time, if ever again. *don't mock, I made them VERY quickly! Thus ends my portion of this layout's life.
