Hi, anybody received their new BB pack yet? Id like to know if the new Roco style couplers are in NEM pockets or are fixed?

If these are the same as the original & successive BB coach release & the pic on Hornby site looks to confirm this then the couplings are not the Roco type but are a fixed coupling with integral electrical connections

These couplings will not couple with the tension lock or Roco type couplings.

No they are changed to Roco style. Each coach now has pick ups for the lights. No through connection.

I'd be interested to know what is interesting in that?

 

Everyone knows Hornby uses stock images and simply use photoshop to change the livery. They've been doing this for years. A lot of models have had many parts re-tooled but they still use the stock images and simply add the updated features in the product description. At this moment in time you can see this on their Class 90, Class 59, Class 66, Class 73 and Class 121. All these models have been updated with NEM couplings, better wheels and 5-pole motors in some cases, yet the images are based on stock photos of the models pre-2005

The product description for the 5-BEL is very clear and states that they will have NEM couplings and it's also backed up by images from websites like Hatton's and Rails of Sheffield

I agree with you: they use stock images. However I am also aware that communications between manufacturers and the factories as to exactly what is needed don't always go smoothly.

It is the use of those stock images that also makes things more difficult when trying to work out what will match and what won't. I partially answered a query on another forum about whether the new coach pack will match an earlier 1934 pair of driving motors. The person's main concern was with the roof colour, but I also pointed out that the markings for the third class cars would differ. 

The change in couplings will make it more difficult, but not entirely impossible to match up with older release driving cars.

The older coupling won’t fit the new coupling.

 

It is possible to replace the older coupling, but it’s a faff that involves messing with wiring, I decided I needed twin motor cars (to go over my gradient), which involved replacing a male for a female coupling in addition to swapping body shells on the extra power car I sourced.

 

If your thinking what I am thinking, it may be possible to buy the new driving cars set, but swap the shells with an older set and use the existing 3 trailers in the middle... may not be wholly accurate but as long as the paint matches..

 

My two 5x car units came in originally at £80 less than the RRP for this dumbed down new one.

 

Have to wait an see.

Just to add to all above.

 

The new tooling coach pack is in stock on the Hornby website, and it states that these new coaches are not compatible with the older spec driving cars. The new coaches do have nem pockets with 2 lengths of coupling for those who wish closer coupling of coaches. Instead of the electrical connection socket between coaches each coach has pick ups fitted collecting from track.

 

The new spec driving motor coach pack, with nem pockets, is available to pre order but is not yet in stock.

Arrived this morning.  Can confirm Roco in NEM pockets (well, for about 5 mins!).  What is surprising is how bright the table lamps are compared with my 1960 style end cars.  Just opening my analogue Gaugemaster controller sets them at Photoflood level so, in the absence of knowledge of how to dull them down electronically, I am experimenting with Modelmates Dye to achieve that authentic nicotine stained effect.
