Barnaby
Congratulations and good luck in 2021 with the new jobs for you both. Coaches looking good too but be careful where you put them down in your similarly coloured hobby cabin or you may lose sight of them. RMweb Gold Popular Post Adrian Stevenson Posted January 17, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted January 17, 2021 Hi Guys, here is my latest update. Last weekend I spent most of my free time setting up CCTV around the house, garden and the cabin. So modelling time was fairly limited, but I did do some more track weathering and got a second coat of paint on the branch set. This weekend I did not have extra tasks to do, so I have done the 3rd coat of chocolate and cream to the branch set plus another coat of black on the ends. I have also weathered 5802. The weathering was done with my usual mix of airbrush and weathering powders. Cheers, Ade. 24
Piemanlarger
Really nice. Do you seal the weathering powders? If so what with?
RMweb Gold Adrian Stevenson Posted January 17, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted January 17, 2021 I usually don't bother to seal the powders as they can easily be topped up if needed. But a sprayed on coat matt varnish would do the trick if desired. Cheers, Ade. 2 1
Piemanlarger
Ok I'm like you in that I dont seal just top up powders. Had my first spray gun for 6 months but still not opened it up as yet lol. One day soon I hope to get it going and try not to mess things up !!

Simond
I’ve never varnished my models, as I want the different textures to appear different, so far this has not been a problem. atb Simon 2

RMweb Gold Adrian Stevenson Posted January 23, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted January 23, 2021 Final coat of Paint done on the branch set. But I now need a tin of mahogany to do the droplights. So I went on to build the coal staithes which were situated down beyond the goods shed. I have represented these as sleeper built. The prototype were not actually made like this, but I cannot determine from the photos I have as to what they were made from, they almost look like large sods of earth?? So I have gone with these instead. They are made from the usual coffee stirrers. I will next have to make a corrugated iron open fronted coal store and corrugated iron stable for the coal merchant's horse. I have enclosed a blown up ariel photo to this area. Cheers, Ade. 15
Bluemonkey presents....
Great job Ade. Best thing for those stirrers is to help hold the coal back! Love it. 2
RMweb Gold GWR57xx Posted January 23, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 23, 2021 A corrugated iron stable for the horse sounds like a matter for the RSPCA to me. I guess animal cruelty wasn’t a “thing” back then. Difficult to tell much from the postage stamp photo though. It’s all coming along very nicely Ade. 1
RMweb Gold Adrian Stevenson Posted January 23, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted January 23, 2021 Thanks! Here is a earlier view of the tin stable. It was quite big and had a hay loft, so there was the stable door with another door above it for access to the hay loft. As ever when doing a prototype location, it is important to get the details right for the era you are modelling. Cheers, Ade.

Exactly what I use Ade, very useful they are too. The platform is one of the things the stirrers have made.
Mulgabill
Hi Ade To go with the stirrers, I suggest you try coffee cup sleeves for the corrugated iron. I used them on Helstonish. A bit course for 4mmm but should look good in 7mm. Layouts progressing well, keep it up. All the best TONY
RMweb Gold Popular Post Adrian Stevenson Posted January 24, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted January 24, 2021 Painted up the coal staithes today in shades of brown, grey and black. Also fixed the numbers to the point levers. Started fitting the brass door handles to the branch set. Rather fiddley as you can imagine due to the size. Cheers, Ade. 23
David Bell
Love that lever frame. It really looks the part Cheers David 2
Piemanlarger
Who makes the levers ?? Coaches look great.and it could be worse they could be 00 ! 1 1
RMweb Gold Adrian Stevenson Posted January 24, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted January 24, 2021 Thanks. The lever are by DCC Concepts. You can buy them singularly or in multi packs of six or twelve, which work out cheaper. Cheers, Ade. 2

RMweb Gold Popular Post Adrian Stevenson Posted January 30, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted January 30, 2021 Had a delivery of some laser cut fencing from Scale Model Scenery. So yesterday I began to install this on the layout. The amount illustrated is one packets worth which has done almost up to the site of the engine shed. I have given the posts a base coat of paint. Next task is to thread the four wires into place. Usual disclaimer applies. Just a happy customer. I have also ordered some telegraph poles from Tricky of this Parish which will be coming in a couple of weeks. Cheers , Ade.
Barnaby
That fencing looks the business Ade very realistic. I'm not sure I've got your patience to do that, excellent work. Best 1
jazz
Love that fencing Ade. What will you use for the wire? Regards, Ken
