JJGraphics
I'm using Firefox on an older Mac and can't update Adobe as latest version(s) not compatible with my OS. Is this why? Adobe is a brand of software, not an application so you can't "update Adobe". You don't actually need any Adobe products on a Mac, even an older one, but you can choose to use certain ones for specific purposes. If it is Adobe Flash Player you are talking about, get rid of it asap as it is no longer needed by most web sites and the older versions of it have all sorts of nasty vulnerabilities in them. Adobe is ending Flash Player altogether very soon as it is no longer relevant. If you need any help with this please PM me. RMweb Premium Alex TM Posted December 25, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 25, 2018 Hi John, That's useful information about Flash Player. I am not sure that the BBC website would agree in full; sometimes their videos refuse to play unless you're using a more recent version of it. As others have said, more recent versions do not always work on older versions of the OS. Like some others I'm using an older mac running 10.6 Regards, Alex. JJGraphics
Hi John, That's useful information about Flash Player. I am not sure that the BBC website would agree in full; sometimes their videos refuse to play unless you're using a more recent version of it. As others have said, more recent versions do not always work on older versions of the OS. Like some others I'm using an older mac running 10.6 Regards, Alex. I have not used Adobe Flash Player on any of our Macs for some years since it became a conduit for all sorts of nasty things. It appears that the BBC website may have given up on using content that still demanded Adobe Flash Player as I have not noticed anything that would not play for some time. If you are using a more recent version of Safari on your Mac there is a simple way of tricking websites that demand Adobe Flash Player into thinking that you are using an iPad or iPhone neither of which have ever had Adobe Flash Player and they then serve up the content in a different format so you can watch it. Here is how to do it: 1. Launch Safari and go Safari > Preferences. 2. Click the Advanced button in the top menu. 3. Tick the box at the bottom of the window to Show Develop menu in menu bar. 4. Close the Preferences and look at the menus at the top of the Safari window. You will see the Develop menu has appeared. 5. Click the Develop menu and you will see the User Agent options. Using the various options, you can choose to pretend that you are using one a number of different web browsers on different platforms. Usually the best choice to fool a site which is demanding Flash Player is Safari on the latest version of iOS listed. The version of iOS offered in the list will depend on the version of macOS you are using and will change as updates are issued. Although this trick will work with most sites, there are the odd ones where it will not. John Edited December 26, 2018 by JJGraphics
