JamesGWR101
I have been thinking about doing a N gauge version of a real location for months. And it wasn't until a visit to the NYMR last year that I decided to base the layout on a location on the NYMR. I thought to myself, should I base the new layout in the hills of the heather covers North York Moors or do a station? It wasn't until I went to Grosmont sheds that I decided on the idea that I should base the layout on Grosmont sheds. The new layout is going to be a 100% accurate model railway layout of the sheds with the NYMR's home fleet of Steam and Diesel locomotives represented in miniature. I've recently been on google and getting images of the sheds and copying and pasting them onto a Word document and have been on Google Earth and sketched out the track plan for the sheds. I'll let you know on updates of my work.
JamesGWR101
I've been multitasking while working on my OO gauge shoebox layout. I've given it a thought and wondered if I should have visiting locos on the layout as well.
JamesGWR101
The NYMR has had lots of visitors to the line. Steam and diesel: Flying Scotsman City of Wells Tornado (more than once!) jdb82
I'd be interested in following your progress with this layout - I'm a big fan of the sheds up at Grosmont, and I'm sure I've probably got some old photos knocking around somewhere if you need any. When I was in my teens, I built an N gauge layout which was a bit of a mixture of places: the station and signal box at Goathland, and the the coal stage/re-filler at Grosmont sheds. This was pre-digital age though, so no idea if I still have any old photos of them!
DCB
You will need around 6 working N gauge steam locos and many non working "Barry Condition" rusting hulks that used to run once. Probably best to do a visit and get some pics. I am hopefully going to Grosmont on Sunday or Monday if there is anything specific you want a pic of. JamesGWR101
I have sketched out the trackplan for the engine sheds. It's not finished yet because I'll have to add the trees and I'll probably colour it in as well.

I never knew that Evening Star visited the line! She is special as she was the last 9F to be built also the last steam locomotive to be built by BR. JamesGWR101
The layout is going to need a big fiddle yard as the NYMR's trains can be up to 8 coaches long. I might also buy a East Midlands Trains Class 43 HST to represent the Pickering Paxman which will be renumbered to the actual hst that ran on the line. jamie.dunn
I live in Scarborough so I’m not a million miles (20miles) away from the NYMR and I tend to visit quite often. So so if you want snaps just give me a shout, I’m also going to follow this thread with interest. jamie

6990WitherslackHall
thanks for all your input into the project. i really appreciate the help. I recently visited the NYMR this year for the steam gala featuring 6023 and 6990. Unfortunately, i forgot my camera and i wasn't able to take photos for the layout. If anyone is able to take any sometime, that would be really great. i don't know how big the layout will be. I will have to work that out. I will also have to update the loco list. 6990WitherslackHall
sorry for the lack of updates, been a bit busy with other things going on. i have also been re-drawing a more detailed and better trackplan of the sheds.
6990WitherslackHall
Having accidentally lost the trackplan i drew, I thought it would be easier to have it digitally rather than draw it by again. So i used google maps, moved around until i was happy with the position and i saved it as a PDF. Grosmont Engine sheds - Google Maps.pdf It might not be clear as i'd like it to be but it'll do.
Scott Read
Hi, I'm looking to represent the Engine sheds on my OO Gauge layout in the near future and will hopefully be visiting in August so will be taking a batch of photos if anyone would like these I can link them here afterwards? One question I do have is has anyone found any good representative models for the various buildings please? Thanks Scott.
