Brick Arch Bridges Header Bricks

Recommended Posts

Im relatively new to O gauge and in the process of scratch building a brick arch bridge to use as a low relief scenic break. Can any of you expert modellers who's skill I can only dream of, suggest ways of modelling the header bricks over the arch. Thanks in advance.

If by header bricks you mean the concentric rows, I found that by taking a single row of pre-embossed bricks (eg Slater's) and nicking the mortar between each brick on one edge only, the strip will naturally curve. This curve can then be altered to your arch profile. Multiple strips are added as required.

Hi Baggies,

You do not say whether it is an indoor layout or a garden layout. Now you say it is 0 gauge and these are from my friends 16mm garden railway but the size of the stone/brickwork is up to you. So if it is an outdoor layout these pictures may help. All the walls and the viaduct in these pictures have been modelled in concrete and whilst still green were carved to the required shape and brick/stone size. It is very quick and easy to do once you have made the frames you want at the thickness you want. The slate bridge next to the viaduct was made in a different manner using over a 1000 pieces of individually cut slate then glued in to place. The base/roadway for the viaduct is slate cut to the required size.
