Both types were mixed together in rakes. That’s a very good question. The newer era system may or may not be more helpful but it certainly creates confusion unless which era system is specified. Rather like LNER A1s and K1s needing the designer’s name added. (Guess who got excited by the announcement of a K1 only to be a little disappointed.)
