Seems  an eminently sensible decision given the mess franchising is in. Hopefully they'll do the rational thing and extend it even further.

I imagine the pending report will have been completed, signed-off and considered, hopefully with new policies agreed. That should surely be done in such a timescale.

Will the bidders be compensated (from public funds of course) for the cost of their bids?

I can see this reducing even further the willingness of potential TOCs do put in bids.

If nothing else it should provide greater clarity on how to approach bids given the events that are currently unfolding in the political world.
