Glorious NSE
Thought it was time to kick off a bit of a modelling thread on my RhB stuff...I've not got much so far, but I'm enjoying it even though I'm still adjusting my head to the size! Â First through the works are some Haik bogie vans by MDS, I've bought two pairs of these so far. Â These first pair have just been weathered and lowered slightly, and I'm calling them done apart from couplings. (Paul, what MT couplings work best with these?) Â The real Valser vans have a reasonably fade by now so I've tried to replicate that. Â Â The RhB one I've tried to replicate the 'brake dust patina' the real vans develop. Â Â The second Valser is getting a slightly heavier fade including faded out lettering. Ran into an issue with that one today but I'll hopefully get it finished tomorrow. Â Not sure what to do with the other RhB van yet. Â I don't really want a second 'orange stripe' one as my impression is that's not a common variation in the fleet anymore, so I'm not sure which way to go with that yet. Â There are some plain silver as below, which would be easy to do the basic livery on, but decals would be an issue given the large numbers and logo. Â Â There are also the first 20 Haik vans built, these have a shorter roof, a shallower fishbelly chassis, and ribbed doors amongst other differences, so it'd be involved but not an impossible kitbash, and it'd make for a good variation in a rake. Â These also have a big red logo, but with the heavy weathering it's less noticeable! Â Â Much mulling and modelling still to do! 3
Satan's Goldfish
Superb weathering, makes the pictures of the wagons look much larger than the models really are.
Glorious NSE
Thanks SG.  Second of the Valser vans finished today, I rubbed the lettering down on this one to more closely resemble one I shot.   Had a bit of a play with potential small layouts on an old board too...
Glorious NSE
So, courage duly plucked...  *Door wheels recovered for possible future use. *Platform popped off for safety. *Roof persuaded off, this one was glued into 3 of the 6 pegs it locates into. *Roof piece shortened. *Sides sanded to remove old livery and a tiny bit of width. *Door wheel details removed from corners and new corner posts (platform corners need trimming.) *File down fishbelly.  I need some thinner strip to do the rest of the doors but no disasters just yet.  Quick reminder of where I'm aiming for...

Glorious NSE
Thanks! I don't think that decals suitable for this will exist - so I think I need to at least try and hand-draw the logo these have: http://www.haribu.ch/coppermine/displayimage.php?album=437&pos=0 If I can't get that right, weathering it is... Glorious NSE
Might have sorted the decals, TL-Modellbau does some sheets of suitable decals in 1/87, have ordered the one with logos and will see if a small 1/87 logo will work...  I do wonder whether it's worth asking them whether they will shrink their sheets to 1/150 though!

RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted October 7, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 7, 2019 Lovely stuff Martyn, sorry for the slow reply but I was adding ideas on holiday!  I used the 1017-10 on the vans 2004-1 on locos of both makes. Pic of the bogie conversion here
Satan's Goldfish
If not, I need to do a transfer print soon, I'm sure I could fit some small RhB logos in a corner without an issue for you.
Glorious NSE
Thanks - I've ordered a set (1717) from TL and I'll see how they work out. Is there any interest from others in any of their sets in N if I ask - their HO range is here: https://tl-modellbau.de/Schweiz_1 Several RhB-specific sets there - the one for post containers might be useful also.

I haven’t tried those as found similar ones blummin fiddly to assemble with my big fingers on 009 years ago. Nearly threw the wagons away!

Glorious NSE
The decals arrived yesterday, and the largest ones on the sheet were too small.... Back to the drawing board on that (though there's plenty on the sheet that will be useful later so it won't be wasted...)   Then this morning a box arrived from RhB Modellbahn, I'd ordered some swapbodies, a RTR well wagon and a pair of Aussichtswagen kits. Unfortunately the well arrived slightly more well shaped than intended, and having lost an end handrail en route. Fixable I think, but not usable at present.  Or maybe its just for really heavy swapbodies?  First impressions of the Aussichtswagens kits is good (but I'll leave a closer look till I get home...) Thanks, it's out in the other direction (the 1/87 decals are too *small* for a large logo in 1/150!) but the method might work - I may have a play! Glorious NSE
Have done a few bits since the last post, but haven't documented any of it - sorry.... Anyhow, as much to bookmark the very useful roof weathering shots as much as anything - here's some lunchtime youtube viewing!   2
eastwestdivide
In that video, the new driving trailers with old coaches and a loco the other end - is that a recent thing?

Only in that the Alvra driving trailers are new so more services have gone push/pull as they had the Bdt 172x -173x, (and the similar luggage 174x), originally and then the low floor Bdt175x low floor ones before.  1
Glorious NSE
So far as I can tell...  The 8x boxy 2nd class NEVA driving trailers (17xx) date from 1999 I think, I haven't seen anything to suggest they are going so I think they will be augmented by these 8x new ones (528xx) with Allegra styling.  They seem to have been delivered in 2018 but seem to have been quite slow into service?  There's also the 6x new first class driving trailers (578xx) - again with Allegra styling, one for each of the 6x Alvra sets for the Albula line.
