RMweb Premium John M Upton Posted September 29, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 29, 2019 Hello I have been thinking about the best method to represent third and fourth rail in N scale. Thus far I have considered simply adding rail stripped from flexi track or using small plastic I section strip/rod as well but not sure with the latter option what size to use to allow for realistic appearance but not foul any passing trains. Any suggestions appreciated!
Nearholmer
Square-section 1mm nickel-silver strip, soldered to brass pins? Square section is all a bit ‘tube’, but unless you can get very fine rail, rail is possibly going to look out of scale, in a way that it is disguised when it is the running rail of ballasted track.
RMweb Gold Joseph_Pestell Posted September 29, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 29, 2019 What are you using as running rail? Any rail of smaller profile should do the trick. So if you are using Peco Code 55 (really 80), proper Code 55 rail or even Code 40 (as used by fiNetrax) should be fine. "Insulators" will be more of a problem. I am not sure what the smallest round head screws dimension would be.

RMweb Premium John M Upton Posted September 29, 2019 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted September 29, 2019 Many thanks for the suggestions. I think some lengths of Code 40 rail will do the trick. Fortunately it is not a very long visible section I am doing. Much obliged!
RMweb Gold scottystitch Posted September 30, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 30, 2019 I have code 40 from British FineScale and am planning on using the chairs provided, painted cream and then mounted on the sleepers, to give the impression of insulated pots.
