GWR Backing Arms - Reverse colour

Could someone confirm the reverse side colour of ex GWR backing arms in BR(W) days?

 

Were they still white with a vertical black stripe between the holes?

The holes are, er, holes - so the colour changes depending on what you see through them (blue on a nice day )

 

But there is a point here because although I din't bother to say so before the width of the black stripe on the early versions did tend to vary a bit depending on the painter and sometimes it could overlap the holes.
