Popular Post dibateg
At last I'm getting to a stage where I can get semi real looking photos - there is still a lot to do with the scenery. I'd like a more late summer look.. With a bit of Photoshop, I could get those lines out in the background.. Now most of the signals are nearly complete, I can test plant them. Scenery and ballast progress slowly from West to East...This signal controls exit from the goods yard.. lots of places to go to! Signal 43 on the down line from Leen Valley Junction. A fence post is wedged in the wire to keep it horizontal!
dibateg
More placement of signals - 75,72 & 68 for Bulwell Common, Nottingham Victoria and Colwick respectively. The LMS/BR splitter ( 57 & 58 ) on the left control exit from the bay - The Vic or Colwick. Experimenting with ground levels on the left. That raised area needs to be slightly lower than that...
dibateg
Ballasting continues, as does work on the backscene. In the meantime, workbench time has been devoted to the Brooklyn Road bridge that is on the link to Bulwell Common. its the first substantial structure I have built in plasticard. Based on this bridge, though I have had to stretch and skew it. ( Photo by Hayden Reed )

dibateg
I think the bridge might have gone, but I'm not certain... Once the brick sheets are added, it looks a bit more promising. I moved the buttresses out a little and added outer ribs on the cross beam. Some of my brick courses are not perfect, this bridge is located 4 feet back on the layout and will only be detailed on the viewing side. But I think the MekPak has had an adverse affect on me, I was quite ill last night... 6
dibateg
Today was our first pass at the backscene by Alisdair Macdonald, with a trial fitting. There are corrections and adjustments to make yet. There will also be a scenic break in front of it up to a couple of inches high with higher ground level and hedges and fences. 16
Popular Post dibateg
Alisdair Macdonald came to fit the backscene today, and we spent a pleasant day with Geoff Taylor as well working on Basford North. It's very much work in progress, but it is now starting to come together. 22 1
dibateg
The Brooklyn Road bridge is nearly complete, I just need to finish the pilaster caps and tidy up.. 8
dibateg
We had a scenery working day yesterday, and as well as ballasting, I thought I'd make a start on the arched retaining wall that hides the Bulwell Common Line on its way to the storage yard ( it should be heading off in completely the other direction! ).

Tony, is there a part of you that wishes you modelled in a smaller scale, say 4mm, to enable you to fit more in "correctly" orientated? Mike.

Popular Post dibateg
I've done a trial placing of the GC bridge, there will be an extended wing wall on the left to take the footpath from Vernon Road to the GC bridge. That and some trees will help disguise the proximity of the back scene at this point. Ballasting on the main line is now complete, the process of tidying up and cleaning the track is now under way.. Wagons are standing on the what will be the hidden line to Bulwell Common. 17 1
dibateg
It was a nice hot day today, so all the doors and windows were open in the railway room, so that I could use the airbrush to tone down the ballast on Basford North. That's underfloor heating foam on the left in preparation for a raised bank. There is still plenty to do... The down platform fence has now been completed.. That signal is tight for clearances - I shall have to check full size requirements... 14
Popular Post dibateg
A working day with Geoff Taylor and Alisdair Macdonald saw the scenery progressing on multiple fronts. Disguising that corner in the backscene was always going to be tricky, but we have plans... We'll have to find somewhere else to put our mugs of tea now the grounds of the Northern Baths have been grassed over... Now to erect more of the miles of fencing... Geoff has been filling in the areas of ground between ballasted track and forming up more scenery. 20

dibateg
Now that the rain has come back, I've returned to the workbench. York Modelmaking kindly enlarged their 4mm scale GN footbridge for me. It's not exactly the same as Basfords, but close enough. There is always the balance of available time against accuracy! I needed to shorten it though. The stairs make up nicely It's cut from quite a tough styrene, the only solvent that would touch it was Plastic Weld. 13

richard i
That’s because laser cutting normal plasticard gives of chlorine gas or something similar. So I have been told. it looks great, Tony. richard
