Hi all hope you can help looking ahead to what stock I require on my Meldon layout as in Sig below, now I’m Steam era and already have a USA tank to ply its trade. But I really like this pic. Here can’t post here due to copyright! Anyway lovely looking train with 7 wagons and a brake van. Anyone care to venture what they are? 5 dogfish as http://www.kernowmodelrailcentre.com/p/57609/K4103-Heljan-Dogfish-Exclusive-Pack-of-4---BR-Civil-Engineers

2 Walrus as

https://www.pufferwillies-stm.co.uk/cambrian-c65-176-oo-scale-walrus-40ton-ballast-hopper-wagon-16337-p.asp

and a 25 ton brakevan?

obviously I would like to know what they actually are and if my links are of the same. OO gauge layout.

 Cheers

I don't think the brake van has got end platforms - so probably an LMS/BR style 'Shark' ........ or perhaps an LSWR 'New Van' ?

I would agree, that looks like a shark plough van, I think I can see a central vertical 'timber' on the  end, which brake vans do not have.

Thanks both so I’m guessing you are referring to one of these Shark Ballast Plough ???

Again where is the most cost effective source of a 00 gauge example..

Cheers for the replies.

Yes, that would be the type of wagon, though the example you have chosen is a later rare modified air-braked example with a TOPS code.

Is there another version pre-TOPS in black or olive green?

Possibly R6432 in black might be closer, though it is lettered for Stratford.

cheers

Cambrian kit?

I did think of looking there,  eBay usually turns up some. But I don’t think they come with wheels so end up being same sort of price as a RTR. More detailed though possibly.
cheers for the comment.

Just looked at Hatton's site; second-hand, slightly-damaged Hornby Shark - £27!

Hi all,

So looking at Cambrian kits, before I click ok and pay are these right?

https://www.hamodels.net/dogfish.html

https://www.hamodels.net/br-walrus-40-ton-hopper.html

https://www.hamodels.net/shark.html

I’ve gone here as they seem to have stock Kernow we’re about 0.90p cheaper no shark at the moment though, not that it matters as within 28days I wouldn’t be anywhere needing it!

Cheers for anyone taking the time to reply.

until next time.

 Cheers

Looking again at the photo, I'm pretty certain the nearer Walrus has plate frame bogies but the second one's not so clear and it might be a Southern Railway vehicle : a little bit of variety and also available from Cambrian.

Looking at the photo, the tops of the ends of the two bogie hoppers are slightly different to one another. I recollect that there had been a change in the rock being quarried at Meldon, and the SR 'tweaked' the internal slope of the hoppers to allow propper discharge.

A few of the SR design went to Tyneside for the construction of the Metro in the very early 1980s, and were subsequently bought by the PTE. Others went to Grant-Lyon-Eagre of Scunthorpe. All had cast bogies.

5 x C12 dogfish

1 x C65 Walrus

1 x C67 Walrus

1 x C14 Shark plough.

hows that?

cheers all thanks in advance.

I did Keith ta. I’ve probably got the wheels, had a kind chap on WT send me a load FOC for postage! As he was an EM modeller and had loads of unwanted 00 wheel sets.

Bearings no but I’ll see about those.

cheers for the heads up all the same.
