D860 VICTORIOUS
You have a good memory Jeff! I saw Foxhound several times in the spring of '71. By October, she was in store at Old Oak with 823 D809 and 842. Great name for a loco....
D826
Chaps All the Warships had brilliant names, maybe D800 excepted, but I suppose theres nothing fundamentally wrong with the name, Brian ! I can still recite all the names from D800 to D870,,,,,
D826
Cracking names Phil. It took me a long time to accept the 50s when they gave them warship names in 78. (Love any British built diesel traction now, but soft spot for hydraulics - and 46s, and 25s). Always thought the Western named 47s had panache too. I mean, Thor, Odin, Titan, Cyclops, Mammoth,etc...cracking. D1662 IKB was a favourite too. Add in the Westerns and that made an impression on me. Still think the sight of a motorail train with 16 bogies on, blasting through Dawlish was hard to beat. (Until the up St Erth to Kenny O milk blasted the other way out of Kennaway tunnel with a D1000 at the front). Happy days. Still love Abbotswood by the way - inspirational. Best regards Matt W 2
RMweb Gold Phil Bullock Posted April 25, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 25, 2020 Happy days for sure! And yes 47s were pretty good too... Thanks for the kind comments - we will be back with Mk2, getting so many projects completed with COVID isolation.... Cheers Phil
D860 VICTORIOUS
Very happy days!! A normal spotting trip to Southall would yield 22's,42's,43's,52's,35's,a Pullman or two,and some named 47's that other regions didn't have. Not forgetting Falcon on most days.....
