TML PXA Procor / CAIB wagons

Hi everyone,

I'm modelling a rake of these and curious about the colour they were painted in. The TML yellow ones seem to be an 'off (slightly darker?) warning panel yellow' from looking at Paul Bartlett's photos.. is that the case? What precise paints and colours have others used? Also us there any advice on the blue TML ones.. I'm really not sure about those.

from memory seeing these, the yellow was a darker shade, like birds eye custard. I cant help with a RAL for custard though I'm afraid.

I always thought of them as an English Mustard colour, it is quite a dark yellow. https://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/pxatmlyeoman

Quite short lived as a finish.

Rusty steel, with traces of their last load remaining. There would have been some overspray of body colour for the top foot or so, but the rest was unpainted. The blue-painted ones seemed to be a darker shade of blue than that used by Eurotunnel.

The ex TML boxes still carry this yellow livery underneath the build up of brown. Some of them it's quite noticeable, showing on the edges of ribs and ends of the wagons. Most are in Mendip Rail traffic.

When built these had end platforms but were removed after the traffic in tunnel segments finished but was not immediately done!

Steadfast - yeah I spotted this, on some the logos are still visible as well under the dirt.

Mark - didn't know that, I was curious about the end platforms as I have seen them in some photos and not others.

There's a small number still retain the end platforms, but I think it's single figures. I've not got my research to hand.

The very similar looking wagons built for Yeoman have never carried the end platforms.

Whilst most workings with these wagons were from locations within Kent  ( Hoo or Sheperdswell) to Shakespeare Cliff and Sevington, some ran to the Black Country to collect cast-iron segments for certain parts of the Tunnel.

I've just finished a couple of Paul Rolley's 7mm ones. I think one is Plastikote Yellow and I can't remember what I used on the other one. They're probably not 100% accurate but with a liberal covering of dirt they should look the part.

From what I can see under the dirt on the real ones, your yellow on 3206 looks a good match!

Problem is I can't remember which paint I used on which wagon!

@D6775 they look great! What is the precise paint you have used there?

 

I have been looking at Tamiya Camel Yellow or Humbrol 154.. seem like fairly close matches to the real thing in photos. And as D6775 said above, with some weathering may also look right. Any views?
