Covkid
Hi rue d etropal. I am considering ordering a GRCW class 100 bofyshell from Shapeways. Do you know if there are any deals imminent please ? Thanks

Do you know if there are any deals imminent please ? Thanks There are no deals on at the moment. We shop owners, as Shapeways calls us, are privy to no more info than any other website user. Deals are usually sprung on us the day before they happen without any actual details of the deal, we just have to wait and see the same as everyone else. It is very frustrating.
rue_d_etropal
Over the past 2 years there have not been many deals. I think online trade has been up compared to pre pandemic times so there has been less need to introduce deals. They are essentially marketing tricks to increase business. There tends to be one around the time of Cyber Monday, I suspect because many other online companes have deals. rovex
Just been hit with a £50 import charge for my most recent order from shapeways. I appreciate things have changed since leaving the EU but I thought the supplier dealt with this! Very annoyed that if they don't they didn't make that clear. Can anyone recommend a UK manufacturer I really don't want to buy my own 3d printer

Gordon A
I believe import VAT will be applicable, along with the carriers charge for collecting the tax and paying the government.
RMweb Premium Nile Posted April 25 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 25 That explains it. If you go over 150euros (about £135) the system changes and you pay the VAT to the courier rather than Shapeways. As this usually means a collection fee it can be a lot more expensive. I'll make sure I split my orders in future to keep the below the limit, but of course that will put up the postal charges! Which makes me ask again does anyone know a UK equivalent to Shapeways? There are loads of people who will print 3d files for you...but you need to have the file to print from. So unless you can persuade someone to give you a .stl file, then you are stuck with shapeways. Depending on what you are producing, you could use something like fusion 360 and design your own - its not that difficult, depending on what it is you are printing.

That shouldn't be a problem as I design my own models using sketch up. Is there anyone anybody would recommend?

I've found Tim at CW Railways very helpful, communicative and reasonably-priced (usual disclaimer) , https://www.cwrailways.com/

Quarryscapes
Then in the UK you can try 3DPrint UK, SGD 3D or if you don't mind MJF rather than SLS, Midlands 3D. I've used all 3 successfully. (3Dprint UK and Midlands 3D are suppliers at work too).
