Agecroft Power Station. 1970's.

Recommended Posts

I've posted a couple of these shots before.
Here is a more comprehensive selection, including a couple of shots of the tippler.
The black 16tonner is an internal wagon that has been tripped from Agecroft Colliery. The mine was through the bridge to the left of the engine shed as is the connection to the BR mainline.
The RSH tanks were in good condition mechanically. A repainting process had started.
I organised two visits there of my school model railway club. The crews were superb, very welcoming indeed.

Great pictures Sandhole.

Thanks.
Those were two great trips.
I wondered, for a while about making a layout of this. The main line was the Manchester to Bolton line. Operational interest.
coal came from BR. I never saw how the coal was brought from the colliery. Whether one of the RSH tanks went or whether there was a mine system loco that brought the train.
The BR trains had 25s on the front. I saw one reversed in , the other was hauled in and the loco ran round. Interestingly, the brake van of the reversed train was left behind, the guard travelling in the cab of the loco.

I would have had to have worked out an operating tippler.
When Centre Models made their RSH tank kit I was on my way.
Then, of course, real life intervened.
