RyanN91
I have always been interested in Hornby products which were released but were uncatalogued in the official Hornby Catalogues. So I thought I would start this topic to see if anybody else other than myself is interested. So here it is from the top of my memory I have found a few selected ones which are mostly from the 1990s. Also there is a link with more which do not list the ones I have mentioned. 1982 Rocket Train pack . 1989 Argos Motor Rail train set. 1996 Country Local train set. 1996/1997 Intercity 125 train set . Circa 1998 The Duchess train set. Circa 1998 Football Special train set. Circa 1998 GNER 125 HST train set. Hornby Collectors Guide uncatalogued models
RMweb Premium amwells Posted March 22, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 22, 2021 The one ‘series’ that doesn’t seem to be in the link is that if Kay’s Catalogue. My parents were never members so it was always a mystery when these turned up (to me anyway!). There was at least an A4 (which was when my interest arose)
Co-tr-Paul
First Christmas set. Nov 94. Think it was catalouged for 95 . I'm sure the Rocket set was in the 82 catalouge.... Edited March 22, 2021 by Co-tr-Paul Add text

RMweb Gold sjp23480 Posted March 22, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 22, 2021 I am also aware of a couple of sets produced by Hornby for M&S, one was Evening Star, the other The Royal Train. I don't believe either appeared in the Hornby catalogue: 2

Ruffnut Thorston
There have always been special sets made for customers, that were not in the Catalogue, since the early days of Tri-ang Railways. Special sets were made for Gamages, using the early Rovex style of boxes. http://www.tri-ang.co.uk/OONew/OriginalSetsNewA.html And later, variations on standard sets were made. R3XG set, the R3X goods set, but with different wagons... http://www.tri-ang.co.uk/r3xsetGamages.html There was a Tri-ang Railways train set that was only advertised on Television, in 1961. This was “The Conqueror “ set, using the Rocket Launcher and Exploding Wagon, later re released as Battle Space, with the R.251 Deeley 3F 0-6-0 tender loco. http://www.hornbyguide.com/item_details.asp?itemid=4105 Sets made for export only, were only catalogued in the countries that they were exported to. Australia being one example... 1977 Irish Set... A vast amount of sets, and other items, made especially for the various Mail Order companies, often based on standard sets, but with variations to make them exclusive to the Mail Order companies, such as loco identity, livery variations, etc. Big shop chains such as the late Beatties chain had some special editions of sets, and other items. More recently, special sets have been made for shops like Aldi and Lidl... Edited March 23, 2021 by Ruffnut Thorston More added... 4

RyanN91
It is very enjoyable to see the contributions to this thread thank you to everyone who has replied and added their own contributions yes I remember the M&S excusive train sets etc I can remember the M&S 2004 Evening Star set as well! Ah another I have just remembered are the early 1980s Treasure Chests. whatever the contents contained was pot luck I have seen a lot of these which consist of a anything at random such as this example of a HST train pack these seem to be more of this than the other various random combinations sets ones I have seen also containing things such as track extension packs a catalogue a train controller, a station or a signal box or whatever etc with all the relevant paperwork.

Yes thank you for reminding me of these wonderful gems the Aldi exclusive sets ect the Irish CIE Slainte express set is very nice. There are many other international sets as well! Ah here it is the other Irish set from that period. I have added some other retail exclusives of more recent time. Asda exclusive Country to Coast set. City Express recent Argos exclusive . I remember seeing the Mainline Steam set I think this was an Argos exclusive with a beautiful LNER Class B12/3 locomotive seeing this in the 2004 Argos Autumn Winter edition. If my memory racks up anymore Ill post them here! Edited March 23, 2021 by RyanN91 removed Breakdown Hauler as it was catalogued in 2013

I thought it looked rather striking.
railroadbill
What is the loco in the CIE Sláinte express set? Can't see it very clearly but it looks rather like an orange Hymek. (Or was there a body shell for a CIE B class made?)

Ollie K
Am I right in thinking the R2888M Flying Scotsman train pack featuring LNER A4 4483 ‘Kingfisher’ and three super detail teaks with nameboards was an Argos-only limited edition?

Ah Yes The Anglican Set! funnily enough I was also thinking of this one yesterday but my memory played a trick on me thinking I saw it in the 50th Anniversary 2004 catalogue but no! Forgot to add yes any steam locomotive from 1948 onwards in BR experimental blue is very nice and this beautiful Ex LNER B12 is no exception. Edited March 23, 2021 by RyanN91 Forgot to add about how nice the B12 looks and the experimental BR blue livery.
RyanN91
An uncatalogued 1996 Rural Rambler set. I can't seem to find it now but I know Hornby did issue another My First Hornby set ( not the catalogued 2000 set with an LMS marron liveried Class D locomotive, 4 wheel coach and two wagons, the 1995 musical Thomas set tooling with the station and tunnel that clip together housing the track rolling stock etc that turns into a carry case with the footbridge acting as a the handle) of a brightly bu this My First Hornby was a coloured blue train I think and it was a plastic twin track system with I think wagons and some animal figures and the second track was used for a battery operated car similar to the 1988 Thomas and Bertie set. and similar to the Noddy set. Also from Pat Hammonds 100 Years of Hornby book there is a Postman Pat clockwork train set and the Hornby branded Pound Puppies train set both with a relevant Clockwork 0-4-0T Continental locomotive.
