Made a little bit of progress on my HNRC conversion for my little boy of my old Wrenn 20 body. This is currently sitting on a heavily cut down Lima Chassis (to reduce the weight as it is non powered) and fitted with 14mm Romford Wheels (to reduce the friction of the originals). This was an early 3  pole motered Chassis that started life off under 20171 but never ran good at all. This will allow it to comfortably run with his Hornby GBRF pair. To Square Headlights rae drilled out A1 Models turned Brass versions, Wipac lights are Shawplan cast Whitemetal superglued yo an old Parkside Wagon Floor. This will first give them better depth and also allow them to be Glued to the body better. These still need to be cut out and shaped to profile. The Roof Ariel pod I think is Shawplan. Extended Range Fuel Tanks was knocked up from 5mm x 1mm Plastric Strip and some offcut from an old Bath Panel! Amazingly easy to glue with MEK.First one I made was to tall, to long and to wide! Not sure how I manged that. Second was way better but just need narrowing a tad. The two lower Bodyside grilles have been removed each side which is when I noticed Wrenn had missed a comete set!. Oh well nevermind as it doesnt even have Horngrilles on tje cab or Nose!. Those will be fun to make!.

Some pics of the underneath. I still haven't made up my mind if the Chassis I'm doing will be permeant or not. If it is, then I have 3 options for the underframe Tanks. 1 build up the box from Plasticard and add the half relief tanks and the smaller pipes and taps from Bachmann. 2 by some Bachmann ones and save a lot of Hassle. 3 Fit a Replacement Hornby Chassis if and when one comes up for sale.

Not done much recently. Just Dont seem to have the time. Managed a little work on some of my Bachmann RMC JGA Wagons.  To add a bit of variety I've de - branded a couple by painting out the RMC with a Black Diamond one of which still needs a Black Horizontal patch doing, removed the end steps and Handrails on a couple more, painted the Axleboxes a mix of Yellow, EWS Maroon and DB Red and a first stage of Weathering using Humbrol Sand Wash neat or mixed with a little Matt White.  Couldn't find me Stone Wash so made me own. DB Schenker Red JGA has had the Bufferbeams and Shanks painted Red (forgot to do it!) Just need to find some DB Transfers. For the VTG JGA I made some off white paint for the Body as I couldn't find anything suitable. I used a mix of Humbrol Matt White and Railmatch Intercity Fawn ! First coat has gone on but no pics until I've done the second. Also gotta find Transfers for these too as there will be at least 4 of them in a mixed Train. Also ran outta Thinners now so that's me done at least until I can Hopefully get to a Model shop this week.

Cheers Trailrage.

Stripped down 3 more Bachman Tilcon JGA's today. All of these have the weights removed as it causes an enormous drag. I will eventually make some inner end slopes for the Wagons. Normally use Isoprol for stripping but ran out so purchased a Litre of Isopropanol of Amazon. I think it was last year. This stuff works brilliant as the Bodies were only in it for about an hour and a half. The Printing just lifted and paint brushed of with a Toothbrush. Its also an excellent degreaser for cleaning Motor components, Pickups and Wheels. Also added a Pic of the JGA in its first coat.

  • TRAILRAGE changed the title to Projects, Projects & more Projects. It never ends!

Off work with a nasty dose of Covid. Tried me best to stay away from the family locking myself away with me Modelling so they didn't get it, but they did. Luckily their not to bad but its been pretty aggressive with me. at least it gave me some time to try and get some projects on the move a little

Mixed up some Paint using some old Railmatch Intercity Fawn and Humbrol Matt White. Got it as close as I can. Bodies, Frames & Chassis now Painted. Just got to find where I can get some Transfers now. Came across some very nicely done Models on Flickr by someone called Jon Gavin, but as I Dont have an account, couldn't comment on it. Really like how these are done as they are very neatly finished.

Also made a start on a 2nd and 3rd Model of the elusive Load haul liveried ZBA Rudd. I had done one previously from a Parkside Kit but gave it to my Godson when me wifey bought me the Hornby rendition. My little boy after spending some time with my Godson decided he needed on as well! At least it gave me the chance to resurrect on beaten up old Parkside kit that was missing  few things as well as a refresh of the Hornby Model.

The Parkside Kit is a really nice Kit to build and goes together amazingly well. But boy are they hard to paint in Dutch! Even with the Model master Yellow Transfer (Failed Miserably with that as there designed for the Clam Kit)

I never finished them.

Load haul Livery is way easier to paint especially when being done in a distressed condition.

There's a huge difference between these two Models with Hornby's being a fair amount wider . Not sure which ones is correct with these.

The Hornby model may have been based on the Original in ex works condition as its different from the small amount of pictures I have found of it. The Angle of the Orange on the Cranked Lever side is the opposite direction but I have changed this. (just needs some tidying up as its difficult to keep a steady hand while coughing like crazy!).  linked a couple of images below of what I'm hoping it will look like when finished.

Just come across your thread and your projects are right up my street! Im just starting a new rake of JGA’s which will be mixed with the new Revolution HOA’s when they come out. Will have a few in the carious incarnations of RMC liveries (debranded, roadstone text etc) and one in DB red to mix it up. So its really nice seeing someone else tackle the same thing! Yours look great and i look forward to seeing it progress!

Hello WCML100

Thank you for your kind comments. I had the flipping things since they first came out (and you could pick them up for a tenner a piece) and never really used them much. Same as the Ex Tilcon models which I stripped but as Stone Trains are staple diet where we are  (my little boy loves them) they now get a lot of use. My only real gripe with them is the amount of added weight Bachmann Used disguised as the internal sloping ends as it really adds a lot of drag when you have 10 in rake let alone scale length.  Otherwise they are lovely Models. On the Tilcon Models as they have the hood covers on removing the weigh wasn't an issue as you couldn't see it but as I have stripped 5 of them down to do the DB/VTG models I will see if I can use the original weight to make a template for some Plasticard replacements. Still got some work to do on RMC Wagons in regards of weathering and need to add the Blanked of Road stone  markings but wanted to make sure the paint had fully hardened before doing a second coat (been caught out with that before). when I've had a chance to revisit Ill put some more pics up.

Also please feel free to add pics of your own stock as I always find it interesting to see how other peoples models come out and the method they have used. Have a look at EWS60065's stuff he has done. its amazing.

With several projects on hold until I can recoup some funds after having time off sick with Covid and not getting paid, my attention turned to other stuff that needs stuff doing. An old Lima 60093 In Transrail Grey. This things been waiting for around 5 years to have a partial repaint after an attempt to remove the big "T" stripped it down to black plastic! The real thing had the Big "T" removed on one side leaving  the Transrail Wording, but a chance find of a perfect Photo while looking for inspiration on Flickr gave me this to copy.

60093

A nice big clean patch were the T used to be!. Nice bit if weathering  should disguise any deference between shades of the original paint used by Lima, Railmatch for the upper Grey and Rainbow Railways for the lower grey. Pretty pleased so far and I think one more coat of Rail Grey should do the Job.

Next up I took the plunge and put in my basket a set of DRS Refurbished Class 37 noses for my old Bachmann 37038. This is a Cheltenham Model Centre limited edition Model of it in the condition it appeared in at Crewe Works open day when it still had Split Headcode Boxes fitted. I have not been able to find any evidence it ran in this condition under DRS ownership.

37038

Had this since it was released some 15 odd years ago and never had the courage to modify it.  I seen some suspect models like this and didn't want mine to be the same on the other hand I have seen some beautifully converted examples too. I Have to say these noses are beautifully done and fit perfect. I just hope my attempt at the tiny etched brass Top Headlight does it justice. I'm also very apprehensive about drilling out the 2mm hole above the centre window for it in case I make a complete Hash of it. I have also Never fitted a set of lights to model before either let alone used a Fibre optic before and as electronics are my Kryptonite, Wiring it up will be fun!

Apologies if I’ve misinterpreted your post.  Were you referring to 37038 running in DRS service with the split boxes?

Tanyard Bay Flasks

Searching for 37038 2003 on the Flickr site provides several results of it in service with the split boxes.

Hello Purnu

Well I'll be a son of a Bacteria! Believe it or not all the times I had searched on Flickr I never found a single Photograph of this!

Thank you for that. Its good to see it did in fact get used in this condition. I need to have another look now to see  when about it was converted.

Hello Trailrage

Not a problem at all.

I'll admit to not being able to find what I'm looking for only to come across evidence several years later 🙄

The work you've already completed is looking great. Nicely done.

Regards.

Something differeng. Lima MK2B TSO in NSE but with Regional Railways Bluestripe. Csme acrss a Pic on Flikr of 5439 and just had to do it. Still need to sort out the lower White Stripe as Lima's effort isnt even level  got a SE flushglazing kit to go inand a set of Replica B4 Bogies to mount it on. It will never be perfect (but as I cant see myself ever  being able to afford Accurascales gorgeous looking models at least for the time being) it will do.

shame no one does a full pack for this, I've got some suitable DB logos but would still require TOPS code, and the yellow lines on the upper sides.

I'm thinking of using these.

A full DB JGA Pack from Railtec ? That would be bang on the money 😃

Ok so before I do anything, a disclaimer: I know there are a lot of people waiting for a lot of new packs to be designed and get the full Railtec treatment, some of which have been on the radar for a long time. Some of those modellers may see this thread and think, "Hang on, I asked for something long before this thread came about..." and it may look like I've pushed these JGAs up the queue. Thing is, they'd already been in dev for quite a while and I already had a lot of the artwork on file across other packs anyway. Not all, but a lot. And often, many new packs get logically grouped together so not everything necessarily gets released in the order in which it was asked for.

Many of you will know that I don't knock out quick and dirty packs with generic markings (for example the small bodyside detail on these JGAs is different between the 13nnn, 17nnn and 19nnn vehicles), identical looking TOPS panels and identical looking maintenance charts. The railway doesn't look like that, so I design all the bits to look like the real thing so that your models hopefully look like works of art. But it takes time to make the research, quite specialist and tedious graphic design and subsequent testing. But hopefully it's worth it.

So now that's out of the way, I've released two new packs which should hopefully nail these DB Schenker JGAs.
