Error 524 from Cloudflare - repeatable Search error

Hi Andy, I managed to break the forum a short while ago:

 

I was searching for the word "Pre-order" when it happened:

https://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/search/&q=pre-order&quick=1

 

If I take the hyphen out and search for "preorder", it works fine. Putting the hyphen back in then caused the timeout again. Wondering if the search uses any boolean logic and using the hyphen causes it to try and exclude "order" from the search, making the sb query run too long?

Yes, found the same here with hyphenated terms - never occurred to me before. I'll try and make contact with the developers shout at some pigeons in the park.

It works OK if you put the hyphenated term in quote marks : "pre-order" (at least, it worked for me just now......)

Ahh the joys of poorly encoded string post events from client to server. Likely using SOAP to call the search engine but not properly encoding the payload. <sigh> I see this all the time.
